It's basic pyschotherapy when you smoke marijuana you are in a different state of mind so you will have different thoughts/memorys than if your sober. Same with alcohol or any mind altering substance.

it has most definitely improved my memory. I believe the neurogenesis effects of weed allow for your short term memory to grow rather than decline.

I used to forget shit all the time before I started smoking weed every day. I can say that my number of times I forgot things went down 70% since I started smoking daily.

btw, I only smoke weed. I don't do any other drugs, when I drink alcohol it's fucking terrible so I tend to only do that once a month.

and to the post above, marijuana is NOT like any other mind altering substance in existence. it seriously deserves its own category.

You are lucky, been smoking long time daily, do not drink(islamic family) and short term memory is terrible. Poor Short term memory is a direct result by the nature of it's chemical make up , its like falling over or being unsteady on your feet when drunk. Poor short term memory is a direct affect of smoking grade. If you are smoking then stm will be affected.

I don't mean when you are high people... do you really spend 24/7 high? I mean when you are sober.. after being high.. I smoke or vape once a day. Of course my memory isnt better whilst im high etc though i do sometimes have my moments. I have noticed that I remember alot more things in everyday life... things that others forget easily and overlook. Infact my memory has improved to the degree that I am sick of the idiots who forgot everything. It has cleared my mind alot. I don't like drinking anymore either as I find i wakeup feeling foggy and downright stupid.

If you find that your short term memory is really bad I suggest you cutdown on the ganja to once or twice a day and see how you feel. I am positive you will feel great after a while.

stop bullshiting

any weed smoker will call you out on this

considering marijuana does effect short term memory

you're not special, sorry
more like any ignorant marijuana smoker.

I am scientifically educated in the area and it seems to me that it benefits your brain more than it hinders.

if you give your brain a chance to grow (eg not smoking 24/7 but maybe just once or twice a day) you will experience brain growth.

but if you sit there and veg out all day, don't try to learn anything or do anything with your brain, you're not going to get ANYWHERE.

I'm totally with the OP when he says it improves his memory. it improves mine drastically as well. to the ignorant ones who don't wish to believe this, maybe you should try using weed constructively instead of just a simple escape.

anyone who wants more scientific info about this I will be willing to provide/google and find.

Woh, what gives you the right to decide what the "correct" uses of smoking weed is? You might be able to google something about it helping short term memory but I can find 10 times more about how it hinders.

I'm not just reading shit, I notice I have virtually no memory when I smoke. I get up to get a bottle of juice out of the fridge and end up using the washroom instead.

It's simple to understand. It interferes with the way the recepters in the brain work. That's fact, not myth....

It's like someone else said....it's the same as saying drinking doesn't make you stumble.....Not saying that 1 or 2 beers will do that too you but continue drinking and your gonna start falling around....I think it's the same thing with weed. Smoke a joint/bowl every now and then and you could be fine but smoke a lot and your gonna have trouble remembering shit too.

Sure....two people say it increases their memory and that makes the bunch of us that are saying it doesn't wrong.....

interferes with the way the receptors in the brain work? I'm sorry buddy, THAT's myth.

the cannabinoid system accepts THC as naturally as anandamide, there is no interference here, this is a natural binding process.

I'm sorry bro you have a pretty ignorant view of marijuana; comparing it to how people perceive alcohol is not even close to relative man.

I'm sorry you have virtually no memory when you smoke, but I certainly do. my memory works better at lower dosages, if I'm totally stoned of course I'll forget something.

but what yuo fail to understand is the fact that the area's in which cannabinoid receptors exist in our brain, are the basis of our memory. and anywhere the cannabinoids are active there is going to be neurogenesis.

so it is only logical to assume, that neurogenesis is happening in the hippocampus area of the brain, which is primarily where your long term memory is.

here's some research:

http://neuro.cjb.net/cgi/content/abstract/20/23/8932

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16224541?dopt=Abstract

and this one pretty well explains how some people can't remember shit, and some can while high.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12921345?dopt=Abstract

I tried to read your research article, but I almost fell off my chair in shock at the bullshit filling my screen.

it actually said that thc damages nerve cells, that's fucking hilarious. bye bye shitty research, ready to read some real stuff?

You've got a whole year under your belt and are ready to declare something permanent? That's pretty funny right there. Come back to this thread after 5 or 10 years and then tell us how great your memory is :D

Crazy kids, lol....

Like I said before, pot makes me a total fucktard when it comes to memory, but I believe the ancient chinese used cannabis as a treatment for absentmindedness among other things.

Just googled it now...

2737 BC -- Emperor Shen-Nung in China prescribes cannabis for beri-beri, constipation, 'female weakness,' gout, malaria, rheumatism and absentmindedness.

the scientific research I've done proves that my memory will not degenerate from smoking pot daily.

if you're not willing to accept that, sucks for you, maybe you're suffering from your own placebo.

and I've been smoking for over 2.5 years. daily for over a year. I know many people who have smoked 20+ years and have perfect memory.

I'm sick of this bullshit hearsay, if you guys have a claim to make against weed, BRING YOUR RESEARCH TO BACK IT UP.
