can't control a/c unit with external thermostat

i have a 9k btu haier portable a/c unit. model number: HPR09XC7

i need to cool my 4x4 tent. i don't have space to actually set the unit inside my tent, so my a/c's thermostat is reading temperatures from my room rather than the tent. therefore it shuts off before my tent reaches the desired temperature.

i want to use an external thermostat to turn my a/c on/off at certain temperatures. problem is: for some reason my a/c has a feature which doesn't allow an external source to power it back on. the external thermostat turns it off at the right time, then when it sends power to the a/c unit my a/c's digital screen illuminates (showing it's received power) and then shuts back off.

apparently there are units out there which do not have this feature, and i'd love for someone to point me in that direction. i don't know how to find a unit without the feature. if anyone has any other solutions aside from buying a new unit i'd greatly appreciate your input.

thanks for reading. please help me get going with my first grow! this is the final step..

Could you extend/add the wires to the thermostat/thermistor and run that in to the tent ??? I would look into that first.
i have another a/c unit made by the same brand just rated at 7k btu. for now i'm going to just put the 9k inside my tent and get this grow going maybe tomorrow. since the screen won't be taking up my whole tent till flowering i will have time to see if extending the wires in my a/c's thermostat is even possible. if i figure it out on the 7k btu, i'll do it to the 9k and everything will be golden!

phew...finally done with the op. i think i'm ready to germinate everyone
