Central NY grow….first time (Brothers Grimm genetics)

What’s up all? Hope everyone is having a good season thus far….weather has been crazy here lately ie super hot then torrential storms. My plants have been holding up great though and have some intense vigor.

So here’s the deal….as of right now I have four plants growing, 3 outdoor and 1 indoor that I plan on finishing outdoor when the hours of light start to diminish. I live in an apartment complex so I’m not able to grow outside here and don’t have enough space for an indoor grow tent. I’m lucky enough that my girlfriends cousin has a house and a back yard where she has grown in the past….i gave her some seeds and offered to help with her plants if I could grow a few. At the moment I have a Cinderella Pineapple, Apollo 11, and a Cinderella Purple (indoor) all from Brothers Grimm. I was also given a Blueberry plant from my GF’s cousin (ILGM genetics).

My outdoor set up is pretty straight forward, they’re
all in 10 gallon smart grow bags with ocean forest soil….next time I think I’ll do half OF half HF as I had slight burn on A11. My plan is to start feeding with Advance Nutrients in the next two weeks, doing a hybrid grow appealed to me.

I’ve been going and checking on the plants once a week and plan on going tomorrow to check on them so I’ll try to get some pictures….tomorrow will be 3 weeks since I’ve moved them outdoor. Apollo and Pineapple have been LST’d since last week and I plan on starting with Blueberry this week. Tuesday Purple will be 3 weeks old and I plan on transplanting her into a 1 gallon pot this week. Purple is being grown on my kitchen counter under a 40w full spectrum LED with a fan and just tap water….she is in FFHF. I know this is a micky mouse set up…but it’s been working and I really enjoy having a plant in my apartment that I can look at and watch grow. I love these plants….I’ve experimented with them since I was a teenager in windows and I’ve actually grown some high grade bud…..super small harvests though as you’d expect. These experiments allowed me to learn and see how these plants grow and express themselves differently.

Last but not least…Purple on my counter just kicking ass….this thing is a tank, super compact and vigorous. These came from a test pack from Brothers Grimm (Purple Urkle x C-99 backcrossed with C-99). Apparently these have some great Pheno’s in the test packs…not sure of all of them but this one is super indica for sure. She showed purple from day one….all new growth has a purple hue then it’s turns dark green…super cool plant: IMG_6619.jpegIMG_6620.jpeg

Wasn’t able to post yesterday but was able to go and see the girls. It had been rainy and in the 70’s so they were a little droopy but nothing to worry about. Decided to do some minor defoliation on Pineapple and Apollo and started LST on Blueberry. Blueberry has some weird leaf growth going on…..all new growth are 3 finger leaves even though she started her first few sets with 5 fingers. What would cause a plant to go from 5 to 3 finger leaves? Upon further inspection I found a few 2 finger leaves and also some leaves with weird discoloration (see in pictures below) My two thoughts are that it’s either genetics, stress, or both. Some of you may say that it’s in reveg but I assure it’s not….she has shown sex as a female as have Pineapple and Apollo. Should I be worried of her herming? As I said in my first post, blueberry was gifted to me and I’m not exactly sure of what stresses she encountered before I took on her care. Besides that…all three look great and are growing well/look healthy with dark green leaves….take a look

Well today was my weekly visit and finally I got to see the ladies in their glory, aka it was warm and sunny. Pineapple and Apollo responded great to last weeks first defoliation and Blueberry responded great to last weeks LST. They’re really starting to turn into bushes which is my goal. These things are gonna be huge and I’m a little worried they may get too big. Blueberries structured is super tight (classic indica) and would be a short bushy plant without LST but f*ck it. Today I did more defoliation on Pineapple and Apollo and today was Blueberries first…..Blueberry really needed it with its tight structure. Going from outdoor to indoor….purple is killing it, transplanted her Tuesday to a 1 gallon pot in 1 part ocean forest 1 part happy frog. Also started LST on her today (not shown). Also what are you all growing right now and what are some strains you all suggest to grow that you enjoy. Been looking at a strain called Purple Ghost Candy that looks awesome…also been looking at strains that were circulating on Grateful Dead lot/tour back in the day aka “Chemdog”. Take a look at the babes, these are before todays defoliation and LST!!

WEEKLY UPDATE!!! Welp the ladies are still chugging along full speed. Today was their first feeding as all the nutrients had depleted from the FFOF….did a low dose of Advance Nutrients PH perfect A+B, B-52, and Big Foot mycorrhizae concentrate. They were pretty droopy when I got to the garden today….i asked my girls cousin not to water them as I wanted to feed them….its also pretty hot out today. Apollo was showing some minor nitrogen deficiency…she’s been a little more temperamental then Pineapple and Berry. The girls perked right back up after their feeding/watering…almost instantly, cannabis is amazing. No defoliation or training this week. Thinking about topping Pineapple and Apollo next week. Purple has been responded well to LST and is still kicking ass on my counter….ill post some pics of her later on. Here’s some pictures of the outdoor garden from today after feeding.

I’m from northern ny , and honestly this heat and lack of rain has been amazing , aside from having to hand water my ladies 4x a day “outdoor grow in coco ”

My photo period seeds all sprouted mid may , theyre gonna be 8 weeks old in 8 days .

these gorilla glue mothers have been topped 3x and butchered for clones , and a few today stretched out to 6 foot tall in 10 gallon fabric pots with coco .

I’m doing a run of autos this week , to pack one last harvest into my 20x10 greenhouse , and have a few autos finishing over the next 3-5 weeks as well.

im lucky enough to work and grow on a licensed farm. .

love seeing fellow New Yorkers growing ! For years we all had to gorilla grow in the shadows !

Very nice DoubleD, your girls look super healthy!! Yea, the legality of things had kept me from doing a legit grow for many years…it feels good being able to grow freely now. I agree with the heat and lack of rain, has given me a lot more control in regards to watering and now, feeding. Have a question….when in the day do you usually top your plants? To me it makes sense to do it later in the day/night for stress reasons.

I honestly topped my plants on the 5th node , and two more times after , and it was blistering hot . They were in a greenhouse to boot “100+ degrees 90+ RH .

it didn’t phase them one bit . Within a week , they had tripled in size horizontally , as well as a good chunk vertically .

last year I planted my gorilla glue on may 5th , and they were all 12-15 ft tall , and the heaviest yielding plants I’ve ever grown .

I also have some exotix genetics greasy runtz , that were all topped once - also in coco , in 10 gallon fabric pots . They’ve received the same nutrient treatment as my gorilla glue - but they’re so indica heavy , that they’re literally 3-3.5 ft tall , bonzai bushes . They 100% have to be defoliated every 1.5-2 weeeks to promote more growth .

here is a picture of a few , after the sun had gone down about two weeks or so ago . They say this strain isn’t the best for outdoor and should only be grown indoors , but it was the best smoke I’ve ever had and I lucked out and found a pile of feminized seeds in an elbow at my boss’ dispensary ! The pheno hunt is on , and we’re down to 78 mothers - all very similar in size and stature . Can’t wait to see the end product . Also I have some picture of the gorilla cookies from a week ago . I really need to get up to date on some of these - but they’re gonna yield 2x heavier than these Girl Scout cookies . They’re wrapping around the pots , with lst clips , and just stacking branches . Also the gorilla cookies are in a homemade soil . Advanced sunshine mix #4 with myco , and lucky dog k9 cube 50/50 . Dolimite lime , blood meal , worm castings , and gaia green all purpose . With a top dressing of roots organic uprising . I can’t wait to get some pictures in the next week or so when they really stretch out , and start stacking trichomes !!
back in the day we used to have to buy hundreds of dollars worth of the water absorbing crystals , to keep plants healthy , in spots where hauling in water was not an option . We actually got creative and did sort of a deep water culture outdoor grow . Used a 10 inch thick piece of styrofoam painted green , with a 5 gallon bucket , tons of drilled holes in the bottom 3 inches of the bucket - we cut a circular hole so the bucket sat down into the styrofoam “also painted the bucket green” . We Took them out to the beaver huts and muskrat dens in the swamps in a canoe or by waders , and tied them off and let them float. we ended up with great results , and that swamp water must’ve been an all in one sort of fertilizer ‍♂ I certainly don’t miss the days of hiding , but it sure brings back some great memories .

Wow what a trip man….thats real dedication!! Thanks for the advice with topping….next week I will do my first topping on Pineapple and Apollo. How often did you wait in between topping’s? Also what are some of your favorite strains you’ve grown outdoor or I guess in general? Currently trying to build a personal seed bank.

Took these 3 sick babies in (2 super silver haze/1 sour diesel). They’re about 10 weeks old, super stunted with nutrient issues. I transplanted them into 1 gallon pots in Happy Frog. Hoping they come back….my plan is to give them to some friends. We’ll see what happens. IMG_6697.jpeg

I grow gorilla glue every year man . It’s insanely mold resistant “for our wet shitty September” , and yields super heavy . This is my smallest one. 4-4.5 foot , but if I start indoors and top A few times early , I can pull 2-2.5 lbs per plant up here . Usually may 7th we’re done seeing frost , and even though evenings are still chilly , the plants are large and hardy enough to handle it without issue . April 7th is normally the day I start germinating , or transplanting clones to their final destination pots .

It’s tricky growing up here. We receive 2.2 inches of rain in the last 24 hours . My autoflowers were moved inside for two days to avoid that high humidity , torrential downpour .

I have a close family member who grows 3+
lb plants yearly . He like chemdawg, northern lights , and permanent marker .

he feeds with chicken manure from the Amish solely through veg and has the biggest plants I’ve ever seen in person !
I watched them spread chicken manure and plant corn a month ago , and that corn is 4+ ft tall in 30 days .

I may have to go see if I can buy a trailer load for next season , because everyone seems to love it that uses it .

also one last thing , up here near the border we get hammered with rain always at the end of flowering . I suggest a battery powered leaf blower - and spend 20-30 minutes 2x a day to blow excessive moisture off your ladies . This coupled with BT spray for caterpillars has kept me bud rot free for the last 3 years runningsIMG_2311.jpeg

Awesome…thank you for the input and suggestions!!! Your plants look awesome. Next year I’ll top sooner….was nervous of them getting stunted this time around.

I get it , when you’re crunched for time , every bit of growth helps . I accidentally topped an auto yesterday sometimes lst doesn’t go the way you planned lmao . I’m excited to see though how it affects the plant. I’m losing a cola but that energy might just spread out through the bottom branches and yield the same or who knows even better ? .. i also schwazzed two of my autoflowers “risky considering the effects we see on photoperiods “ but i like trying new stuff all the time .

for the record , we are still transplanting clones in the ground for the record , I doubt they’ll get much past 3-4 feet but every bud counts .

those plants look super healthy buddy , they’ll double if not triple in size during the stretch

Thanks man….ive been doing what I can. Heading to see the girls for my weekly check/feeding in a couple hours. Plan on topping Pineapple and Apollo. I’ll take some pics!

Be warned collecting seeds is almost as addictive as growing it once ya get started bro I already got more than I will ever need yet I still want more there's always one ya can't find then you can get it eventually i think more than half the folk on riu have or end up with this problem there is worse problems to have I suppose though

Haha yea….i already have over 30 seeds….5 different strains…..but I want to get some old school strains that may not be around forever. I’ll just keep them in the fridge/freezer. I’ll end up giving some away I’m sure.

Oh you will I'm sure I agree most of what I gots old school stuff too bud I don't rate much of the newer stuff every now and again something might come along and suprise you but it's few and far between ime

It be easier if I narrowed it down to your tastes bud I like alot of different stuff from alot of different people what's some stuff you tried and liked in the past then I could narrow down some ideas for you?
