CFL broke over my plants... should I worry?

"A CFL containing 5 mg of mercury breaks in your child’s bedroom that has a volume of about 25 m3 (which corresponds to a medium sized bedroom). The entire 5 mg of mercury vaporizes immediately (an unlikely occurrence), resulting in an airborne mercury concentration in this room of 0.2 mg/m3. This concentration will decrease with time, as air in the room leaves and is replaced by air from outside or from a different room. As a result, concentrations of mercury in the room will likely approach zero after about an hour or so."
Whats that post have to do with anything bro nothing is vaporizing, you've got silver shit on your plant.
If it were me Id trim the leaves that the mercury fell on, No point in smoking some extra shit thats not suppose to be there after everyone is telling you to throw the plant away. Stupid people do things that people tell them not to out of a saftey hazard practice.
Smoke it all bro, im sure you'll enjoy the extra flavor since people complain over it being chemicaly grown. Not saying that it could be dangerous or anything, but Im sure smoking liquid metal thats stored up in your plant wouldn't be too good for anyone. Its probably like smoking out of a tin can for like 1-2months(its all your opinion on if its healthy or not). Like I said before, I would just trim those leaves off. You shouldn't have too many to trim off... Besides what if you get some mercury in your hash or something.

I'm assuming you did no research on the matter

first id be very worried about the small pieces of microscopic glass that could cut up your lungs / get lodged in your lung tissue... second i'd be worried about 600w flowering 30 plants!!

id do like 8 max under a 600w

Feel free to say I am out of line or rude or a dick or whatever. I skipped from about the 3rd post to this page to respond. In my opinion, not educated, a doctor, anything at all, I would say that it is a HORRIBLE idea to continue them. If you were to form cancer or something and it was traced to this incident, it does not matter if you invested in a 50kw grow, with $20k worth of genetics alone. Cancer would make it seem miniscule. Anyway.. if you're going to smoke it yourself, I say go ahead and finish them out. If you're going to allow others to indulge in your product.. I would kindly ask that you do not. It just doesn't seem right. Sorry to rant on you fellow brother, and again not trying to be rude. I just figure.. if it's your mistake.. then indulge yourself, but don't bring an unknowing pal into the mix. Good luck and take it easy!
Indeed............

I'm no expert on mercury, but I would think it would eventually dissipate from the plant before it is ready for harvest.

That's just a wild guess though.

I wouldn't throw it away though, we consume mercury every day, in food, especially fish. And no one dies from it.

Enough of it will be bad for you, by the sounds of it, you wiped most of it off, and the rest probably wont harm anyone, and like I said above, I think it will dissipate before harvest.

All still guesses though.

What I would do, is find out how much mercury is in the bulb, and how high of a concentration of, and then look into what (actual) unhealthy amounts of mercury are.

I just love how paranoid everyone is. Yes mercury is dangerous. Did anyone know that the oldschool bulbs and the old fluro's even contained more mercury???? Well I am sure one of you peeps have broken at least one in your life. Well ... then you are just as poisoned as I am.

I am also sure that some of the toys you used top play with when you were a child may have contained asbestos or melamine. Then you are also poisoned. Heck maybe there is still some asbestos somewhere in your home, did you know the dust of that is even more dangerous.

But.... I am still ok and healthy and yes I am planning on smoking my weed and no I am not selling it to anyone.

The point of the vaporising extract was to show how quickly the mercury disipates and how little we are talking about. If the dude who found fault with that post did his research he would find out vaporised mercury is most dangerous.

The whole bulb contains less than 2mg (it's a eco friendly) of mecury and I doubt that more than 10% of that leaked out the bulb and maybe 1% made it onto the plant so we are talking about a max possible exposure of 0.02mg only on a few leaves. To be honest I am sure it is even less than that.

I cut the leaves and there was no buds, I have had zero problems on the plant and I feel fine. But some people say I will have cancer in 20 years. I say weed cures cancer so I am sure 0.02mg of mercury is not match for the sweet THC that I puff every day. :hump:
