I didn't see any good 6500k bulbs at Lowe's. Can i go with the super generic version of the 6500k? and should i mix some in now before i start to flower? and maybe let them veg for awhile longer? They've only been in my grow room for about 4 days.
You can mix CFLs at a ratio of 2:1, like 2 6500k w/1 2700k or vise versa

who are you replying to?

Light might be to close, or PH is drifting out range perhaps

I have had that before. Past experience is that the bulbs dry the tips of the leaves out because they are to close and get to hot. (300watt cfl) Just my past experience, water more and move the bulbs back a little.

Where am I

Hi All,

Going to start my first grow. I have 4 (23w) 100w comparable 6500k cfls. They have 8 inch reflectors. I plan on 4 plants in DWC buckets in a 4 x 4 SJ tent. How long should I veg for? I know that I need to keep the lights at apox 1 inch above the plants. I will switch to (4) 2700ks when I go to flower. I am not expecting a large crop. Just looking at the whole grow as taking "baby steps" for future grows. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!

Anyone know if the Red Wave bulb in the lower right hand corner of this link would be good for flowering? In the lower right corner you'll see the color spectrum wavelength. Are these bulbs usable for flower mode or no?

Flowering stage needs to be in the 2700-3000 kelvin range, red spectrum, the vegetation stage the light spectrum in the 6000-65000 kelvin range " blue spectrum"

CFL's can get great bud imo and experience....

I've been growing with cfl's for almost a year now. I went that route for cost, b/c I'm just getting into growing. I've harvested 5 separate crops of plants numbering from 3 to 6 plants. My first plants were pathetic like 17 grams of wet bud per plant. Two days ago I harvested 3 plants and got about 150gr per plant. I had one cola from an 15 inch tall plant that weighed 57 grams by itself!

As far as potency, its some of the stoniest bud around. I'm still growing bag seed and the bud has been killer. After I hone my skills with the cfl's I'm ordering some Ak-47 seeds and investing in hps lights.
Going to start a grow with cfl and soil. Any tips?

read, read and read some more. cfls can generate plenty of heat even though they dont feel so hot when your hand is near them. make sure theres plenty of good ventilation.
6500k bulbs for veg and 2700k for flowering
you can also mix up the ratio during veg make sure its 2:1 tho (6500k : 2700K)

good luck

I can not emphasize enough the importance for LIGHT proximity to the PLANT.

IF You want a big harvest using CFLS.. there should be a CFL within 1 inch of EVERY piece of exterior foliage of the plant!!

do you understand!!!!

CANNABIS grows FAST.... you will need to adjust the lights or adjust the plant daily.

I NEED HELP! I AM USING TOP LIGHT: 6500K CFL AND SIDE LIGHTS: 4-5500K (each bulb). IF I BRING MY LIGHTS THAT CLOSE, THE TEMP. GOES REALLY HI UP, OVER 100 DEGREES! HOW CAN I FIX THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE MY SETUP IN A CLOSET AND MY LIGHTS ARE 10 INCHES AWAY FROM THE PLANT! AT THAT DISTANCE I HAVE 90 DEGREES AND I THINK THAT IS HI, NO? I AM USING A FAN ON MEDIUM AND STILL IT HOLDS THAT 90 TEMP! WHAT SHOULD I DO?

BEST ANSWER WILL GET ++REP

your plant looks good and you are on your way to a good grow.
but what youre missing is air INTAKE and EXHAUST. just having a fan in there just blows the hot air around and around. the plant is used to being outside and having fresh air at all times... growing indoors means having the plant in as controlled an environment as possible. try to get the air to be circulating fresh air, not just blowing around...
good luck

are you sure thats really 250 watts? true watts, not "equivalent".... repost exactly what it says on the box. CFLs dont usually come with wattag that huge, i think youre misunderstanding the meaning of true watts
for example i use 4x 50 watt daylight (6500 K) and a 55 watt warm white (2700 k)..... the ratio is more important than anything else. as in, for vegging you should have 2:1 daylight bulbs and 2:1 warm white bulbs during flowering

yup its a beast http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290522680361&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT is where i got it

edit: the picture on there does this thing no justice , i had to put a brace in my reflector as it started to bend it
alright then, i stand corrected.
i will tell you this though:

from my experience, lots of smaller wattage bulbs are better than one or two massive ones.
reasons being:
1. the smaller bulbs are more easily replaced by being cheaper to replace and easier to find
2. they can be moved around alot more easily to get them on the sides of and tops of plants...
ill let u know though that while CFLs are good for vegging i would recommend investing in a HPS light for flowering, the buds are more dense, bigger, and the results are just so much better overall
