CFLs a Ghetto Box and some Bagseed (first time one plant)

I'm eventually going to turn this into a grow log. A few questions before I get started. Please bear with me, I know my questions are beyond noobish. I have searched the forums with little success and am looking for answers specific to my situation. Thanks!

First off, once i germinate my seeds, I'll be putting them into a solo cup with holes cut on the bottom raised by a mason jar for water catching. Anywho, what type of SOIL (mixture or w.e) should I be using for this early stage?

I'll be running 5 23watt CFLs for one plant. Once i move the seedling to the solo cup do I keep the light on 24 hours or 16/8?

Once again, I'm a huge flippin noob.

Hello and wellcome to riu, you will need a light mix for seedlings and a more full type when you will transplant in a bigger pot. You can check the foff mixes, biobizz also..It's up to you the 24/0 or 18/6 cycle i have heard that cannabis grows 33% faster with the 24/0 others say that a 6 hour off is needed for the plants, i really don't know i am a noob myself, i used the 24/0 cycle on my first grow with good results, also think about some more 2700 k cfl's when switching in flowering,i hope it helps,gl and happy growing!

Thanks for the replies! I am now using an emergency blanket as a tent for my grow space. How effective is the emergency blanket versus Mylar?

Good to know. I've heard that emergency blankets are somewhat transparent and aren't a great choice.

I am no longer using 5 23watt CFLs, I am using 4 23 watt CFLs and a 16 watt (or 13 I'm not 100% sure) soft white mini CFL.

Question time.
I've heard that soft white is good for the plant in veg. Is this true? Is there anything negative about using the soft white?

Do I NEED a reflector? I will be posting pictures soon so you all can see my closet and light fixture.

Update- My seeds are in a wet paper towel right now germinating. They've been germinating for 16hours now and I cannot wait. I only have 3 seeds from a bag so I hope they work!

Will the 23s suffice through veg? Also I plan on purchasing some fox farm ocean forest today. Hopefully this can raise my seed from seedling to kush. Will I be able to use this soil all the way through?
Edit: a little light lot of love eh?

Nutrients, do I need to get some? I shouldn't be worrying about nutes for a while I know but still curious. I'd rather not use nutes if possible this is a pretty DIY cheap grow.

Ya the 23w will work but, the 26w puts out more lumens (brighter) but the 42w are a little more expensive but will pay for themselves, cause more light, the bigger the plants and buds, and personally I use https://www.rollitup.org/organics/539844-subs-supersoil.html I believe it works the best IMO :bigjoint: BUT...I have used cheap ass Miracle Gro soil 6-7 bucks and cheap ass MG nutes 3-4 bucks all from wally world with good results :weed: (my firt 2 grows) and if you're growing in a box, ya mylar won't hold as much heat but, if you could paint it flat white inside that would be better...easier clean up  ....and I wouldn't recommend a mason jar water catcher, the roots will sense the water and grow out the bottom of your cup QUICK...I use solo cups but, I use old lids from plastic containers (buter, sour cream, ect) that way the cup sets on a firm surface and the roots don't grow out the bottom...
AND..lol...welcome to RIU man..you're in the right place

I've searched the forums quite a bit and can't find an answer on temperature. I have emerceny blankets hanging in the closet and taped to the ground ill post a picture soon but Will temperature be a problem and how vital is temperature to a plant. I live in a funky area where the temperature is 65 one week and 90 the next. The temperature in my house is between 65-75 during the summer.

Just to clarify, fox farms ocean forest should be good enough for my plant from seedling to harvest?

Also, do I need pertlite? If so, what kind?

Yeah, I take noob to a whole new level but I'm excited to learn

I would transplant into fox farms but not start a plant in it. I mix ffof with light worrior 2-1 as my base soil. you need to feed it if it asks for food. probably wont take you through harvest

Use miracle grow/perlite mix,start in a solo cup with your 4? 23w cfls,use 6500k or I prefer 5000k(20/4)and veg for 4-5 weeks,after 4-5weeks transplant to a 3 or 5g container using your ffof/perlite mix, switch to 12/12 lighting,leave in the veg bulbs(6500k-5000k) for 3 more weeks(until stretch is over),then switch to flowering bulbs(2700k-3000k).Water from the tap.That should be it.EASY.GL:cool:

2 of my 3 seeds roots have popped through. I'm thrilled and will be picking up some fox farms ocean forest and some perlite after work. I'm thinking an 80/20ish mix.

Edit: ill be starting off with a 20/4 light schedule as suggested and slowly work my way to a 16/8 for veg

Ill be posing pictures soon I promise haha

I just planted 3 seeds. 1into a solo cup and 2 in small plastic pots. I placed them 6 inches below my Cfls and now i wait.. I did about 80/20 foff/perlite.
I'm planning on a 24/0, I left my automated timer thinger at my girlfriends.

Question time
Should I water right now? How much water?

It's been 3 days since sprout and the plants are slowly growing about 2 inches out of the soil. I overwatered a bit at first the leaves curled a bit but they are doing great now. I'm turning the light off for 4-5 hours tonight. I haven't watered in a day and will wait another day to water even though the soil seems dry
