I'm planning on building a 2'x2' plywood cabinet for flowering and was wondering if I should go with like 8 26w cfls or just get a 150w HPS (I found one for $70 at HTG)?
I suggest starting with CFL's. HID lighting incorporates more challenges. Heat will become an issue in a 2x2 and you'll have to find ventilation solutions. You can run a 2 x 2 on computer fans if you use CFL's.I say CFL, HPS will bring the heat in my opinion, I want to step my game to HPS but I'm using CFL's to test the waters since some one told me you can't...

If you get through a grow with CFL's maybe upgrade to the HPS when you are better equipped experience wise to handle potential issues.
I don't think you should use the little baby CFL's though. I just picked up 68W CFL's right off of Home Depots shelf for $15ea. They are quite impressive for off the shelf equipment.
