CFLs or little HPS?

I'm planning on building a 2'x2' plywood cabinet for flowering and was wondering if I should go with like 8 26w cfls or just get a 150w HPS (I found one for $70 at HTG)?

I say CFL, HPS will bring the heat in my opinion, I want to step my game to HPS but I'm using CFL's to test the waters since some one told me you can't...

I suggest starting with CFL's. HID lighting incorporates more challenges. Heat will become an issue in a 2x2 and you'll have to find ventilation solutions. You can run a 2 x 2 on computer fans if you use CFL's.

If you get through a grow with CFL's maybe upgrade to the HPS when you are better equipped experience wise to handle potential issues.

I don't think you should use the little baby CFL's though. I just picked up 68W CFL's right off of Home Depots shelf for $15ea. They are quite impressive for off the shelf equipment.

The hps is definetly tha better choice but u need a good venting system 2 get tha heat outta there especially since ur in a small 2x2 area cfls get tha job done 2 but the yield won't be as good

Ya, I'm on my second cfl grow. I found some 42 watters for 9 bucks at walmart. maybe i'll just get a couple of those. Heat has kind of been an issue so far. I have a good fan going and all, it's just that the rubbermaid is in a like 3x3 closet.
Also, the 2x2 growbox I'm planning will be 4 ft tall. Think I could get 3 oz out of it with 4 2.5-3ft plants and just cfls?

I agree cfls wud be jus righ for ur grow if heat is an issue ...3 oz is definetly possible but also take into consideration how long u veg them and also the size pots there in contributes 2 yield ...lst &| topping &| pruning also increases yield ..I personally use these on my own plants

you cant have 3 ft plants in a 4 ft growspace with HPS coz you need like a 1.5-2 ft for reflector+bulb+space between plants and bulb

If you get 8 of those 23W bulbs, it will work fine. Just cram as many as you can in your little box. You can get the Great Value brand soft white's at Wal-Mart. They run about $7 for a 4-pack.
