I grew up in a growing family. My father, uncles. Aunts, cousins, etc. Ive literally been growing my whole life. Over the years ive grown everything you can name. But ive always grown bagseed everytime i would get seeds. Up until about 2000 when medical dispensaries got started you always got the same 2 types of weed from bagseed. It was always these huge growing sativas. And you knew they were sativa as you could tell by looking at them. One was the red hair or orange bud type of sativa. It was by far the most common. You would see in being grown and cloned indoors so it turned into great smoke. Even outdoors it would be great smoke if you took care of it. You wouldnt know it was bagseed. It looked alot like ak 47 or jack herer. The other type you saw was the most coveted and hard to find.( I haven't found any in 20 years and am still looking). It was this lime green and completely white with frost. It smelled like the most beautiful pine trees. It had these great long not very compact buds with no red or orange hair of any kind. My father grew and cloned a single seed of this type from 74 to 96. He said it came from a lb. Of something they called mexican hightest. Only 1 seed was female and he literally cloned that same seed for 20 years! It was fantastic. And occasionally back then you'd find one of these types in your bagseed. So as i said this was the kind of weed you got from bagseed prior to bout 2k. Now mind you i always grew out some bagseed in our backyard every year so thats how i noticed the change. Bout 2k literally over night both these wonderful true mexican bagseed strains disappeared. Prior to this change it was rare to get a hermie. Unless you over stressed the plant they would not normally hermie on ya. So bout 2k. All of a sudden the sativa disappeared and the bagseeds changed to an indica hybrid. And along with the change came all this hermie and bad genetics. I can only assume the cartels were trying to get a faster harvest or just keeping up with the changing times. Over the years i grew out all my pure landrace sativa beans i had. (I always called them landrace) and every year i still grow some bagseed in search of that landrace lime green mexican sativa. But to no avail its always some kind of indica hybrid now. Sometimes ill even get some purple strains. Of course this new bagseed still grows decent smoke. Now i take care of them so thats the real secret to bagseed. But these new hybrids coming up are in no way anything even close to the genetics you can get from seedbanks. But if you cannfind some of these old type of bagseeds you'll know where all the new genetics came from. Most of our best strains today came from these pure mexican sativas. So im gonna keep looking for my coveted fluffy lime green sativa that what became known in our area as "Gares bud" or "Garys weed" as that was my fathers name. Sadly in 96 my father gave up growing and took his last half dozen clones out to the wilds of the pacific northwest where we lived and planted them. Along with them we planted and placed about 25 bagseed starts and about a hundred seeds. Then we left them to their own device and moved from the area. I haven't made it backnup there since that day. For all i know theres a plot of wild growing smoke still there. One day im gonna go back there and check. Sure would like to find something there, as ive been chasing that strain ever since.....
