Lab grown meat. Those vegetarians with ethical concerns, should be ok with it, those driven by health or other concerns won't use it. It is harm free and depending on the energy source, green. It has been my limited experience that most vegetarians are driven by health concerns, not ethical ones, but I 've only met a limited sample.

Let's talk about a new item in your grocery store....
I went vegetarian for 2 years back in the 80s. Not for health reasons, just as an experiment. I lift weights alot, and have also run many marathons, and ultramarathons. Best marathon time in the 80s was 2 hours 38 minutes and change. ran 7 50 mile cross country ultra marathons in under 7 hours. I had better times, and strength when I ate animal products. When I went vegetarian, I mean strict. No animal products at all. When I started eating animal products again my times, and lifts improved.
Ive also got nothing against being a Vegan/Vegetarian. It was just a self experiment. I still like TOFU in many applications. Many of the vegetarian products they sell are friggin loaded with sodium and arent healthy.. I do mainly eat fish, shrimp, scallops, crab, chicken, turkey, eggs, cheese, milk, but not alot of meat like I used to. But I do love the taste of meat. I also love frogs legs. I may eat meat 1-2 times a week. Mainly spaghetti, or lasagbe, or a Burrito. I get double steak. Dont know if people have heard of MOES Southwest Grill, but I love their Homewreckers. They do use antibiotic free meats/poultry, and whole grain wraps. I could eat Mexican food everyday.
I remember the first time I ate meat fter 2 years I got sick as a dog. I dont know if it was because of the meat, or the place I ate. I ate a Taco Johns Burrito. 2-3 of them, and about 2 hours later I threw up and gagged for several hours. It was almost enough to have me swear off meat. It was probably more to do with the restaurant, than meat in general. I normally dont eat fast food joints like Taco Johns/Bell Mcds ect. Havent had Mcds in 30 years. Taco Bell either.

or beyond burgers etc
are not made for vegetarians or vegans



No fucking vegan or vegetarian is eating that shit.

its made up as a marketing gimmick for meat eaters to "be healthier"

so youre 100% incorrect stating that vegans and vegetarians wanna eat these. its all marketing its not food that vegans or vegetarians eat

its not even food anyone with common sense eats, its food made of marketing the same people who think eating a 100 calorie cookie is healthy because its 100 calories despite all the shit they put into it rather than eating a regular cookie they make

Economics and quality will probably be the biggest factor in the adoption of syntenic meat and little else. Domestic animals owe their existence to our needs, there are a lot fewer horses than in the 19th century, they used to be everywhere. As for myself I eat meat and if I have any concerns about it, they are ethical, not health related and have to do with a reduction of suffering, their suffering. There will be a lot fewer of us in a hundred years or so, if demographic trends prevail and standards of living continue to rise. Populations are not being replaced in places with improved standards of living and especially with female education and emancipation. So, these things apply to us too, there may be fewer domestic animals in the future because of manmade meat, but there will be fewer of us too.

i'll buy it, i'm with Beau on this one, i've seen farms and slaughter houses. something produced in a sterile lab, that has never been fed steroids and antibiotics?...hell yes...so lets see how long it takes for republicans to go the fuck off about it, like they do about everything that isn't the way their grandparents did shit

One big reason theres going to be less animal prouducts in general is because of drought. In Texas they already had to sell 60% of the cattle because all the grass is burned up, and theres not enough water to keep them watered.
Wars of the future are going to be over water. The Mississippi in some places is so low you can walk across it, and some places its bone dry, and plants are growing out of what used to be the river bed. The Missouri is at a 1200 year low. The Ohio at cairo Ill is so low they can no longe draw water from the river for the city, and had to switch to ground water.
The 4 major rivers i Europe are no better. The Thames, Poe, Danube, and the Rhine river are so low in places you can walk across them, and some places are bone dry.
Lake Victoria in Africa, the largest lake in Africa, and is the lake that supplies the Nile has lost 73% of its water. The Nile is so low the Mediterranian sea is backing up into the Nile Delta ruining their crops, and fresh water supply. Just like the lower Mississippi. The gulf is creeping up the river bed because normally the river flowing into the gulf keeps the seawater out, but now theres no water, and the sea is infiltrating the lower delta.
The Yangtze in China is also fucked. They cant get their seafaring cargo ships into the river now because its so low and is also bone dry in places..
All this is also disrupting supply lines. And thers no fix to this, other than nature raining, and snowing enough to end the worldwide drought.
It also wont be long before people in the west cant grow weed either. California and Colorado are really going to be screwed. If ya aint got no water, you aint growin no weed. Simple as that. And what happens when Lakes Meade, and Powell can no longer generate hydroelectric power for more than 60 million people, and its 115f, and they have no air conditioning?

Soon there wont be enough water for chickens, cattle, turkeys, ducks, sheep, pigs, goats. And thats also a reason food prices are skyrocketing. Supply chains are fucked, and mass sell offs of farm animals. They had to kill 10s of millions of turkeys, ducks, and chickens this last summer because of avian flu. It was found in 42 states as of October. I think they have destroyed at least 47 MILLION Chickens. Exports on eggs have been stopped. Europe has also seen an avian flu outbreak, and they have destroyed 50 MILLION birds. The virus is being spread by the wild bird population. Ducks really being hit hard.

things like this might slow that decline. if they can produce a good quality of beef, they could stop deforesting the Amazon, and they could stop dumping 375,000,000,000 liters of methane into the air every year
cows produce at least 250 liters of methane a year, per cow...there are over 1.5 billion cows in the world....3.75B liters a year is a conservative estimate.

bad news and good news, sort of inextricably intertwined....people don't do a damn thing about anything, until they HAVE to...
and it is getting to the point that they HAVE to. even a lot of the stupidest (republican) people are starting to realize that they can call it whatever they want, but its real, and ignoring or denying it isn't making it go away.

A question.
I’m anticipating that in my lifetime, we will be able to 3D print prime steak from truly vegan (like, yeast) feedstock. What would your opinion of such a thing be?

i would imagine that it would be grown in a molded form, and shipped and packed the same way beef is, the thought of trying to keep something like a 3-d printer clean when you're feeding essentially liquid beef through it.... :shock:

My son briefly worked on the night crew that deep-cleaned professional kitchens. They have solutions for that ;)

they have solutions for everything...but i know a lot of the people that do that kind of work, and i'm willing to wager that tainted product from the equipment not being properly maintained would be one of the biggest problems with 3d printing anything edible. some places take that kind of stuff seriously, and some places do not.
most restaurants don't have a crew that comes in nightly, stuff like that gets done once a month, if it ever gets done. the second shift cleans everything up, while they're tired from working a whole day, already.
if they would be used in something like a meat packing plant, or a facility where that was what they did, then i would tend to trust them more (although i'm not sure why :-? ) but if they're used and maintained by restaurant staff...i'll pass

Cotton production is in jeopardy, the majority of the worlds cotton is grown in 5 locations. It takes intense sun light and a lot of water to grow cotton and the areas are running out of water. When Egypt runs low on grain they will have to switch from cotton to wheat to feed their people. The cotton crops in Texas are dying from lack of water and the same in Russia and Asia.

ok. do you eat tofu? yeast can easily be made into a substance nearly identical to tofu.
i'm wondering if it's the yeast, which is a vegan substance, and fairly nutritious, or if its the preparation method?

Cotton production is in jeopardy, the majority of the worlds cotton is grown in 5 locations. It takes intense sun light and a lot of water to grow cotton and the areas are running out of water. When Egypt runs low on grain they will have to switch from cotton to wheat to feed their people. The cotton crops in Texas are dying from lack of water and the same in Russia and Asia.
Plastics are the way of the future! Besides, they don't believe in no global warming it's fake news in rural Texas, Louie Gohmert and Ted Cruz say it's all a hoax and they wouldn't lie like some liberal!
