you keep this thrad going long enough some of the bigger guys will come in here and put there two cents in ..

im i have a premonition most will side with me .. as the other guy siad ..."Why are clones strains so popular"?

dna does not change. a cutting is a cutting because it has no roots, not because it's different. they become clones once rooted, meaning that it's a genetic copy (might not look the same, esp if your only experience with that plant is from seed). however, they DO call them CLONES for a reason ;).

and even after years, they're still the same. experience talking :p
YA! +rep .. Very well put my friend.bongsmilie

Hey brother, you don't have to take my word for it. Just because this guy hasn't seen any change doesn't mean it's not happening, and if you do it long enough, you will see a change. A marijuana "clone" isn't actually a clone. It's a cutting. If it were a clone, then the genetics would stay the same. Being that you're taking a one cutting, and exposing it to slightly differen't conditions, and feeding, it will change over time. Even if you don't change anything, it will still happen.
That is roughly where my thoughts had left me, so the cloning of clones 4-5 times does sound like a reasonable exchange for someone who doesnt have the space or time for a mother...

Cloning clones gives you the benefit of a cloning system which is, in any sense of the word, faster then from seed. But i would have to claim that the slight genetic difference between the clones of 4-5 cycles would be well worth being able to set up a purpetual system, even if it is short.

im going to mark you down for do it

so far the count is
*Do it forever=2

*Do it for a while=1
*DONT DO IT=0

here's an example of results from cloning clones. please look at how closely these resemble each other after 4 years since originally grown from seed. i don't have a mom on this one, i clone from the clones...

and here are some others to look at....

hey skunkman, just curious but do you have an argumant for the whole"it degrades it just like photocopying a copy of a picture would" argument? id really like to hear it! always love good stuff to argue with. lol

aside from look, have you noticed any difference in the actual grow? size, time, ph issues, nute lvls. difference in the smoke? yield(in general)? the high?

thank you in advance as well!

+ rep to everyone that poriveds a good argument for either side. experience is the only thing that matters in this game and im trying to leach off of yours, lol.

Ive noticed my clones degrading after two or three runs.Maybe my mothers are not as healthy as they were
are you taking clones from mothers? or are you cloning the actual plants in rotation... im curious as to if i can basically clown a set of plants i have before i set them in my bloom box, and instead of starting a new batch from seed, i just use those clones, and continue the process... no mother involved what so ever.

yield is the same, heavy hard nuggets, potency is the same, effect is the same, flavor and taste are the same. flower time is the same, has never changed. it probably helps that the mothers i keep are the ones that are the easiest to manage with the highest yields and greatest effect. all of my strains can take 1500-2000ppms after established with no problems at all.

Im taking clones from mothers. My mothers are about 18 months old
mmmk, any insight into a motherless clone system? i simply dont have the space to keep a seperate mother clone and keep her as healthy as she deserves, i will in the future(hopefully) but rite now im concidering cloning Each crop before i put it into budding so i dont have to deal with seads or male/female. the question in hand is the quality of the product.

oh, so you are using mothers?!? im trying to figure out if i can clone just off of whatever batch is in veg right before i bloom then, so i have a set of clones ready for veg. no mother.

I know a guy who does it the way your talking about and he says hes better off not keeping mothers. He just takes clones before he puts them into the flowering chamber

i actually have better results cloning branches from plants that are going into flower than i do with moms. mothers can be an issue of their own, esp after months of sitting in one pot. both of mine are several years old, and need to be re-potted badly, or root pruned with fresh soil. an unhappy mother will make for clones that take longer to 'take off'. if you use moms, take care of them like they're getting ready to flower, so cuttings are prime.

either way, if you take care of your plants, you are essentially preserving the strain, and you should never see degradation issues :)
