CG,
Well done man these ladies look real nice. I've been growing for a little over a year. I've seen it all at this point and really learned a lot. As a matter of fact I'm learning more everyday. I feel like I'm at a point now where I can understand what the plants are telling me in terms of there needs. It's a great feeling looking back at where I was when I first started.

With my second grow ever, I tried a DWC system. I had heard and seen the great results it had given. Had some real issues with light penetrating the bucket, etc. Just some real newbie issues. I think I'm at a point where I'm going to give one plant a try this next grow. I have a couple of questions if you don't mind?

Being a soil guy and a follower of the School of Fox Farms I'm wondering about using it in my hydro unit. I found that when I did an initial reservoir change that the big bloom clouded the water and everything seemed mixed well. When I returned the next day that stuff just basically clumped up and clogged my air stones. Is this a normal thing for you as well? Also, how often are you checking your PH levels? Seemed like mine was out of wack every day. I was having to make PH adjustments daily to each plant. Kind of became a hassle compared to watering and training with soil.

Just my thoughts any knowledge you could share would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Shinedog :)

Very nice of you to drop by.

I use the full line of Fox Farms, with all the extras.. cha ching, beastie bloomz, open sesame.

I love the products! I grew the last batch of soil plants with the FF line, came out terrific, especially with the molasses I added.

As far as the light penetrating the buckets.. You need to find Black Buckets my friend. There all over.

Big Bloom does cloud the water.. totally normal, and yes, it does clump, and slightly clogs airstones. I have not had alot of trouble with it though, I wash my airstones each week in hot water, and its all good. Might wanna get a slightly larger airstone.. Thats what I did.

As far as ph is concerned..Its always around 6.0 no matter what. Maybe my water is perfected or something? I never had any problems with ph at anytime..And Im kinda surprised. I used to check it everyday..But, Lately Ive been slacking to once a week, because its ALWAYS the same.

If I were you, I would follow the Fox Farm feeding Schedule, and do Exactly what they tell you. Not more, Not less. Better yet, Buy a ppm meter.

Them folks at Fox Farms know that a good majority of there sales are to pot growers, so they made that cool schedule..And I follow it religiously.

Yea, Bubbler Buckets blows the doors off of Soil.. There is literally no comparison. And Im using the same exact nutes.

I have also experimented with aero.. Well not full blown, but I have one plant getting 15 minutes of nutes and 45 minutes of air time with a pump at the bottom of the bucket. Its kinda cool, But Im sticking with Dwc all the way next time.

The only problem I have at the moment is space. I have an entire bedroom specifically setup for growing and its getting crowded in there because of the unbelievable growth rate of hydro. I had no idea... I tried Hydro many years ago and failed. Never tried it again til Last month..and now Im hooked!!!

I did countless hours of research, and felt comfortable to get back into it. And Im succeeding quite well.

I would honestly tell you to get back into it. And once again... "FOLLOW THE FOX FARMS FEEDING CHART" or get a tri-mter/ppm meter.

I aint missing soil for a second. The nutes may cost a few bucks, But MAN the results are Priceless.

I actually see massive growth spurts each day. Growing is so much fun when you see "CHANGES" Good changes.

Thanks for stopping by, Hope to see you again. Any more questions, just ask. Thats what Im here for. :hump:

Your friend, CG :)

Thanks for the quick response. Couldn't agree more with the Fox Farms assessment. I too use the whole line and molasses in the last few weeks of growth. I drop the FF line at that point but I double up on the Cha Ching. I get crazy resin production in the last few weeks before harvest.

Yes, the bucket I had was the orange buckets they sell at Home Depot. Not a solid solution I know. I now have the black bucket, well basically the same setup that you have.

You are a lucky man if your PH stays in line, I have serious creep and I've heard in hydro you can end up with nute lock out with too much creep. Mine can go from 5.8 to around 7 in a 24 hour period. That's my main concern. I usually cycle about 10 plants through, so checking PH on 10 buckets daily becomes a real choir.

I've got clones going now, maybe I will throw 1 in the hydro bucket just to see what happens. Hopefully, I can see it through this time around.

Real Good... :hump:

Do you use tap water or??

I hear you on the care of multiple plants. I have a total of 11 dwc buckets going at the same time w/out a controller bucket.

At the moment, My veg room has a 430 watt son agro hps glowing away on a six pack of dwc 3 1/2 gal. buckets waiting to get flowered.

As soon as the flowering is done on this curent grow, I swap em out. Simple Simon.

I like the constant turn around. Saves alot of hassle and time. Just snap off the lids and take em to the flowering room. Thats another reason I like Dwc Buckets. No soil mess.

Have a good day! CG :)

Heres another picture shoot of my Glass Stripper strain getting beat up by a very turbulent oscillating fan. :o

I know that I have mentioned the fan use earlier in this thread.

Thought Id show you what they look like Today with the fan blowing away at their thick ass bushes.

There Working out like Arnold Schwarzenegger at one time!(Seen him lately?? woah!)

They dont mind, They like it!

I always leave my fan on *HIGH* when the lights are on.

Builds the shit outta the stem and branches.

Makes my buds so much bigger. Gotta beef em up before I initiate flowering next Sunday.

I keep the fan on high from the minute I put em in veg, and all the way til the last 30 days of flowering.

Then I turn the artificial typhoon down to *Low* so my plants can focus on building huge Donkey Dicks!

It does indeed improve the overall yield.

These Girls will certainly turn into trees.

Look at the root mass!!! FUCK!!!!!

Hang out with the ladies, You'll see what Im talking about. Its gonna be a good grow CG

Hey thanks mason,

I try my best to get the job done.

Glad your going into hydro.

Fuck that dirt shit.

Once you go hydro, you will see a major difference in how your plant looks, and grows.

I still get very excited to see the changes, not by the week, but by the day.

Good luck on your remodeling.

Keep in touch bro, Your newly acquired friend, CG :) bongsmilie

Greetings Glaucoma :)

Well, matters what type you get.

The dual outlet walmart pumps I use in the veg room only require about 8 watts a piece... And so the bill may be about a dollar a month maybe... if that.

And in the flowering room I use a Hydrofarms dual diaphragm hydroponics pump that draws about 13 watts... which is very good considering how much air it puts out.

So, the bottom line is ...

The pumps will not take you to the cleaners.

I have read about them Hempy buckets,
and they seem to work.

But once you get a dwc bubbler bucket dialed in,

You will see results you never thought possible.

Thanks for the rep my friend, and come back soon, The flowering starts Sunday :)

Nice healthy root system!!!

How do you like that light mover?

Keep em green!!
Dirtfree
Hello Dirtfree! :)

What a cool name. :hump:

Thanks for the words, and glad you made it by.

The light mover works great! :)

It helps shine them rays to all parts of the plant, all angles are penetrated.

Its a must if your growing alot of plants under one light.

I dont think Id grow without one.

Peace brother, Please stop by again and say hello. Best of luck your way. CG :)

Hey 420 watts up?

That was a funny thread huh? LOL!! :bigjoint:

DWC has its advantages, thats for sure.

I might try aero someday, I have heard remarkable RESULTS! :)

Yes, I do have my own strain called *Glass Slipper* and you have *new shoes*?

How ironic.. heeheehee!

Wish we could get together, that would be cool :) We could indeed check out the foot wear!! LOL!!

Dwc is very easy,
I dont know why alot of people continue growing in soil. I just follow the lil' Fox Farm feeding chart, and check out the ph from time to time, and there good to go!!!

Speaking of ph, ..

Today was the very first time I had to use ph up.. weird.. But, I got em all dialed in.

Dont be a stranger, Come on back, Ya hear?

Your Homey CG :)

i'm suscribed man fo sho. i hate me some dirt!!! aero is definately some killer stuff man but they're kinda packed together and nothin you can do about it BUT the new shoes builds a low lying canopy in 7 days of veg. topping out at less than 2 feet tall. perfect for my aero. everything else goes in 5 gal buckets. is it just me or do your plants get bushier in the buckets? how long do you veg your buckets?

Your strain sounds sweet :)

Indica? sativa?

The GS is both.. Cinderella 99 with an unknown potent ass Indica I called Monster.

It is one of the better strains for sure.

All my friends beg me for it. Heehee!

Ya know, I believe the bushiness is due to using Superthrive, believe it or not.

I use a drop per gallon, and they bush out like crazy.

I have tried going without it in an experiment, and the ST plants ALWAYS
gave me the Bush factor.

And the plants without the ST were ok, but not nearly as branchy.

Iam also growing out 4 soil plants for comparison reasons... And the Hydro plants are whooping there asses!!

Not surprising.

See the root mass of my hydro plants? Looks like Michael Jacksons Hair when he was a teenager, except died white.

LOL!! Dude, Im baked, and the sun is shining. Im in a good mood. Just made up some more clones.. Life's good til the bills get here.. Heehee!

Killer dude :)

Sounds like the Dank :)

My mixture gives me racing thoughts, a bit of tweakiness, yet controllable. Very social and not reccomended for just anyone.

Great for party's... Keeps me thinking.

Aight Homey,

Gonna get a few things done around this place. Very nice to chat with you.

Pop in anytime and say "HIGH"
