Much like Zeke Miller from Time couldn't see the MLK bust and reported Trump removed it from the Oval Office, perhaps CNN just didn't notice the scope of the inaugural crowd.

Imo the crowd was definitely smaller, no question about it. I had family there 09, 13, and fridays inauguration and they attest to it too.
What difference at this point could it possibly make? None. Trump's president.
