So I think that the driver that they sent me back from the RMA process is DOA...

I took great care with the installation and triple checked everything. Fans come whirring to life but the lights do nussing!! Argghh!

I want to fire this thing up damn it. I emailed about the driver and about stream lining the process to get a damned driver to me fucking now. (Of course I was polite..)

Al just out of curiosity put the S/N in here. Could tell you something.

I don't want to get you all crazy but I've been reading up on MeanWells lately and probably the worst thing you can say about them is they do use lesser components in their non-medical grade supplies and that they are heavily bootlegged by the Chinese. Australia got a warning this month.

@FranJan , could you explain to me again how to check if my string is wired in a complete circuit and how to test each cob for a complete circuit?

My latest build has never lit up and I have two different drivers here telling me that it's not a driver issue.... :wall::wall::wall:

I need to get the veg cab going on something other than cfls!!!! Thanks for any tutorial you can give/lead me to.:peace:

Here's some info on series connections showing complete circuit, Maybe will help.

I've got the dmm inline with the circuit, just want to make sure I have the meter on the right setting.. I've learned a ton up to this point, although the nerves are still as strong as they were when i started..

The dmm set to 200v.
Negative lead hooked up right after negative on driver
Positive lead hooked into the series right after the positive on the driver.
Plugged in the light and took a reading.
The dmm reads 191 volts roughly.

I can verify that ....
A Meanwell HLP 60H-42 is rated as " 1450 mA " driver ....
At the test report is stated as " Io max = 1536.8 mA @ 230 VAC " .

At real life every each one of them ,is maxing at not less than 1656 mA ....
(When the " Io adjust " trimmer is turned fully clockwise )...

I'm no expert, far from it with diy cob builds but... logically it would make sense, like the other guy was saying..

"next idea is ... disconnect 1 cob, so only 4 in series now ..power up and see what happend?"

perhaps do that but eliminate one cob from the equation each time to ensure one is not bad... try several attempts.. each time with one cob not being connected,a different one each time. try to troubleshoot by process of elimination.

Middle one is fried.

well at least now you know.. it could be the cob

i used to have to troubleshoot AV equipment and process of elimination with wiring and components often told me when something wasn't working correctly..which component was to blame

i've never touched a cob light in my life except just turning on the light that I own, which I bought assembled.
