COB grow light opinion

We want to move some plants to flower from the veg box. In the flower room we have a 600w HPS light in a medium size hood. The flower space is 4' X 4'.

The question is would it be better to get a used large hood with a thousand watt bulb OR get two of these for the same money and light the dark spaces.

The investment would be nearly the same, but would the LEDs be good enough to make up the difference?

Stay far far away from that led. I’d say a 1000 watt for a 4x4 might be a little much. If you want led look to hlg or timber. Or look to 315 watt cmh lights.

If you only had 2 choices between a big high pressure sodium versus that little piece of junk led take the sodium. That is a no-brainer. I recently saw a migro.com video on YouTube where a guy named Shane reviewed all the different types of lights for efficiency. Being a cree cob-man myself I was surprised to see all these other lights kicking ass. A Cree 3590 was near the top anyway. My next build is going to be with some Luminus CXM 32’s. Heard the next generation 4 is going to be r leased soon in that 32mm LES cob. Luminus might need to sell these next gen cob’s with sunglasses included. Couldn’t get a release date from them but am guessing next week, or hoping is more like it. Good luck in your choice.

For a 4x4 tent a 600 watt hps is more than sufficient but, if you crave more lumens stick a 1000 watt in there. But with more light comes more heat and if your grow isn't setup to remove/cool the excess heat that tent is going to get very hot.

The new Luminus CXM 32's Gen 4 were just announced for sale today and they put out around 20,000 lumens at 2.2 amps, maybe 51volts and about 122 watts. That's a photon spewing machine and I can't find any for sale. Went to Digi-Key and Mouser but they don't have them listed yet. The 3500k ones I want are number CXM-32-35-80-36-AC40-F5-3. Should be out soon somewhere. I want to try about 6 of them and compare them to my cree 3590's

CXM 32's Gen 3 is two times more efficient then Cree 3590 in terms PPFD/Watt, if Shane to be believed. But almost twice more expensive. So Gen 4 should be even more efficient, but more expensive as well. I don’t think they will be for sale in open market for a while.

Im in europe, and recently discoverd that the migro dude is from ireland. Long story short, I'll be testing out his migro 100 (im replacing one of my 2 lights in a 2x3)
Ordered it this morning and recived an email from the postal service at dinner about a new package was on its way.
The luminus leds looks pretty good on paper. Cant wait to fire it up!

Luminus just announced those new Gen 4 for sale yesterday Oct 1 but today when I called telling them I couldn't find them anywhere they said wait a couple weeks. Anyway the specs on the 3500k were over 20,000 lumens @ 2.4a and 51v for about 123 watts of power. Think my 3590's can put out about 12,000 lumens at 2.4 amps and 36v or about 86w. Come on Cree you're really sucking hind tit.

Do you have a source to buy these from or site to keep an eye on for their arrival?
