I use supplemental royal blue with mixed 5000k and 3500k. Replaced the royal blue with full spectrum cob 20w plants even happier now than before

what size space are you trying to cover?

how you mount them is irrelevant as long as they are adequately cooled. you could have 25 cobs on a monster aluminum one piece extrusion and 25 cobs on individual pin-fin heatsinks. as long as the chip temp is the same the light will be the same
i recommend 800-1000W of cobs for a 5x5 and 1200W for a 6x6

If you're trying to cover a 6x6 or 8x8 area those are very compact and have a tight footprint. You need to spread out your light. Plus, at around $240 those are very overpriced for what they are. Their ebay site mentions the COBs using 5w epistars and they recommend you shut it off for 30 minutes every 6 hours. Sounds like a fire hazard.

Those lights are chinese crap, stay away.. Build your own or go to timber for quality cobs..

I've only started growing 6 months ago and built a DIY Cob. I did lots of research in these forums and went with Cree CBX3590's @3500K. I started with (2) 3590's @ 100W for less than $200 and upgraded 1month later to (4) 3590's @240W driven @ 1750mA (fed by 240VAC). I only grow 2 plants at a time in a 2.5'x2'x5.7' GGTLite.
All I can say, is that I LOVE IT. Monthly cost is $30 - FOR EVERYTHING
