Thanks for the kind words squarepush3r and Don your advice is always appreciated... Just thought id post some pics up of where i am at now Ive trimmed the lower leaves to encourage more growth to the top of the plant and also to make it easier for me to get in there and hand water her etc. Again, i went in this morning and she was erect lol

Not letting me upoad pics today for some reason?

Latest updates folks... that coco is awesome - i can see little white roots coming up out of the surface at some points...

I think i was overfeeding a little but have been assured that the droop at night is natural - i will let them get to less than half of their saturated weight vs dry weight before watering again - like i say they always seem to pick up in the morning.

Im going for a height of 1.5ft then flower?....

Hey man. I've been growing with coco for about 2 years now and my veg plants always did the best when I fed them nutes as needed with a Sunday water feeding. As far as weight goes, just pick up the pot about a foot off the ground. You know how it feels after a watering. You know how it feels dry. Keep the weight somewhere in the middle. Always remember, It just a weed, it not an orchid. Keep it simple. Peace.

I just finished reading most of the previous post and I would like to add my 2 cents. Using tap water is cool, cause you get the minerals from it, but remember, its got chlorine in it. You're never going to build up good biologicals in your medium. Also, a little Cal-Mag never hurt anyone. Its got chelated iron in it and it helps with nutrient uptake.

Instead of using neem, which I also used to use, you should try a combo of seaplex, huvega and sm-90. Neem slows plant growth. I foliar feed 3 times a week in veg and once a week in flower up until week 5 and the ladies love it. Its a steroid mixture that helps the plant grow and it keeps a few bugs away. If you try it once you will see the results the following day.

Flushing with clearex is good also. I flush with it once a month.

And I try to tell people all the time, Don't use any type of coco you can't use straight from the bag. I use Ready-Gro.

Good Luck Bro

week 4 update!!!DSC00545.jpgDSC00544.jpgDSC00543.jpg

Ok people... here is how she is doing - just started week 4 and i think she is looking a bit scarce for this far in...

I have been using advanced G.M.B and all the additives with me adding the additives 1st and then ppm'ing it up to the desired level with the base nutrients

The additives alone add up to 700ppm!!!

So, i might go for a different tact next watering and give only base nutrients...

Im still waiting on the official line from Advanced regarding this... they still haven't given me a clear answer - all i know is that im feeding about 1/4 strength base nutrients with all their additives

So im thinking a different tact may be required?...

Thoughts, opinions...?

I will post up here their official answer when i get it!!!

Ok after some advice im going to go with 1/4 strength additives and go for an EC of 2.0 (1400ppm Bluelab Truncheon...) for the remaining 4 weeks of feeding - hopefully this will give her more of what she needs!!!

Ok just been giving her 1/4 strength additives (makes the ppm about 200 even with the calmag) and upping to 1400ppm with the base nutrients... Not the heaviest yield i've seen but still looking nice and healthy going into week 6 now - i checked the roots by lifting the plant out of the pot and there is a massive nice white heathly rootball in there so im very happy with the plants overall health :) Some pics:

don't worry. There's plenty of ways you can do it, none is wrong as long as you keep these basic guidelines:

- flush the coco and charge it with at least a low amount of nutrients, before first use.

- Always water till runoff, at least 10% - this is most important, especially if you always feed, and even if you don't. The more you feed and the harder the water, the more runoff you need.

- Flush every now and then with much runoff. Once every 4-8 weeks should be enough if you maintain runoff correctly.

- Use dry cycles up to the point where the roots have filled the pot. Then you can start watering as much as you like (even multiple times a day for maximum hydroponic efficiency - that's what the guy above was talking about, going hydro. However, I do not find this necessary, unless you're recirculating, and even then - keeping wet at all times is asking for trouble, in my opinion. But I'm not that experienced, only one coco grow).

- get an EC/TDS meter.
Spot on...

i know this is an old old thread but i came across it looking for information. I've just started my first coco grow and was trying to find out about wet/dry cycles to promote root growth....til now ive been keeping moist but am now going to let the coco dry out a bit between feeds. good tips. healthy discussion, thanks!
