As many of you know, planting different species of plants together will cause them to grow faster to outreach each other.

What is a good species to put in your indoor garden?

I am looking for something that is easy to take care, not prone to mites or other pests, perennial, and induces this increased growth mechanism.

I am thinking Sansevieria trifasciata mother-in-law's tongue or something similar.

never heard of this method before, I cant really see how the plants would know what else is growing in the same room unless their roots are competing for soil. If so, i highly doubt this would have a positive effect on yield. If somehow this is possible, then having extra potted plants wont do anything more than use up space and light. Having said all that, there are certain plants which excrete gasses which speed up the ripening of other fruit - e.g. bananas. Ive always been curious whether putting bananas in a grow tent would have any effect although ive never been curious enough to test it :p good luck, make sure to let us know if it works :)

This would just be a plant sitting off to the side hanging from the ceiling in indirect light or something. I don't really want it taking up space under the lights, but I want it to be able to communicate.

im doing marigold, chrysanthemum, spearmint, and rhizotonic basil. also putting a tomato plant down there, the smell deters pests(just gonna top it once it gets to big and grow it again). the only plants im gonna put in the actual pot with my mj is the basil and spearmint. i just started them so ill let you know how my comp. growing goes.
