On a serious note I had a very good friend kill himself. I was angry for awhile, but it passed. I miss him, and still find myself shaking my head sometimes when I think about it. I fucking hate crack and how it steals people's soul. He couldn't get his back, so he checked out. RIP Johnny.

unfortunately i have had several close friends who took their own life. it's a tough deal they leave for us. it's a desperate act, many times impulsive. the only thing you can really do for that friend is to learn what you can from the incident and maybe help someone else in the future. hang in there Meta. :eyesmoke:

See...what gets me is how can someone who has everything going for them just fall victim to such a dark depression. Not a drug addict, nor sick or coping with a loss of their own. Employed with a decent job, a significant other who they're still in love with, living in a beautiful place with great people...What pushes someone like that to take their own life? How can that situation make someone feel so trapped and desperate that they have to take such devastating measures?

Sometimes people live with a deep dark secret that no matter how everything appears outwardly they cannot escape what haunts them to their soul. I'm sorry for your loss meta.

Once the pain gets deep enough, its impossible to tell anymore by others, but the second that person has a downer of a day they make a fatal mistake.
Had a close friend take his own life December of last year, was one of those guys that if he wasn't smiling he was making someone else smile.
Life of the party so to say. Couldn't bear or understand the pain he has cause others because of his pain so i decided to fly to nepal and climb
Mt.Everest Base Camp and leave a memorial on top in his name. Surprising enough after i came back it has made a world of a difference for me, i can now grow again and not be a total douche bag.
So maybe all you need is long journey to help you try to realize his pain, and why he/she was willing to cause so much pain to others
by taking their own life.

We (specially men) try to find reasons for everything. As if at long as it obeys some natural or logic criteria we would feel better.
The thing is sometimes there are no reasons, no heads up, no comfort.

I like to think there are reasons, but they are far beyond our understanding, at least in this state of mind/life. We'll never understand everything. Treasure those good memories and make sure as he/she left an impression on you, you'll leave an impression on this world for good, forever. Because we carry within us the moments and gestures of those we loved, laughed with and even fought with. We are a process, life is moving, it never stops.

I'm a retired press photographer, in 1987 I covered the public suicide of a state official, still haunts me today, myself and other members of the media didn't sleep for weeks, some even need counseling as well, I spent time in Sarajevo and the Balkans and in Desert Storm but this was the hardest to take. So far, I could be wrong.... but suicide is as permanent solution to a temporary problem.

It's hard to explain.

I guess I'll share that I am depressed. Don't really know why. Had a shitty childhood but it doesn't weigh on me at all that I can tell. I have fears of the future and death of myself and love ones. Also regrets from the past. Sometimes it just gets to you and you want off. Been this way for over 25 years.

I have taken several rides to the woods with a gun to do it. The same fear of losing loved ones kept me alive.

my grand mother killed herself, my dads mom... was an alcoholic and back then they'd send you not to rehab but rather a mental hospital.. she got home and jumped out of the third floor window to her death..
i wasn't even born as of yet, but she often crosses my mind wondering what kind of person she was and the like ..

She had some emotional issues like most 15 year olds have, but still didn't see it escalating to that. Don't think it was selfish, more foolish. I'm sure it was heat of the moment type thing. Said my peace at the viewing. Just wished I could have told her to hold on a just alittle longer and she'll see that things do get better. Not sure it could have been prevented. Maybe.
