It's very cool. But IMHO, it was likely cooler with a more natural appearance. Not trying to be a critical dick here. Just the archivist in me screaming out.
In Guatemala yes, or at least it used to. Dig under your house, your yard, the street, pick a place. You're likely to find plates, vases, small things. Sometimes you can find a bigger piece, stelas and shit are rarely seen though. There are some Mayan quarries around the country, jade and obsidian, etc. It depends on the region though. It's kind of a felony to keep them, but nobody listens to that, not even the authoritiesOk. Fine. I'm jealous of it anyway. Does that stuff turn up often?
That's a very cool centerpiece. Next time, just use a brush to get anything nasty off it. Not that I think it is particularly valuable, but (to us history obsessed geeks) the funk n stuff (except the guano) is evidence of a human connection. When it gets totally cleaned it becomes more of just the object.
Don't mind me. I once smacked a kid at the British Museum once for touching artifacts. Just the way I roll.
Ok. Fine. I'm jealous of it anyway. Does that stuff turn up often?
