Hi ive just started looking and trying to understand cobs. but wouldnt 3w leds spread more evenly and in turn be more effiecent use with spacing and such. and also cooler and i can put them closer i can make more direct light in a 4 x 4 panal with 600w worth of 3w leds

Cobs can be spread out to give a pretty even intensity. 3w leds panels are generally not as efficient as cob lamps so in the end more heat for the same light.
ok so cobs are just more effiecent than normal leds but also lower wattage cobs would be also more effiecent than bigger cobs right? i want to use more but less powerful cobs for get the best equal coverage possible. i want to make a strips of cob using smaller but closerly spaced to cover a 4x4 area what type of wattage cobs are there?

Lower wattage cobs arent more efficient per se, but the lower current you drive them the more efficient they become

thats the think with cobs i dont know how to look a charts are sheets and such but i wonder if its like normal leds

1 w is more efficeient than 3w and 3w is more than 5w etc. something about running cooler and such. but also less light intensity but if you put 5 1w it would be as intense and run cooler making it more effiecent in that sense.
now are cobs in this way the same idea? in otherwords i see 100w cobs for sale and i can put 4 in a 2x2 setting but wouldnt i save money and also make it more effiecient using 12 25w cob instead of 4 100w cobs?

Bonjour
For a 2x2...4sq/ft you will need 4 x 30w of cxb3590...
4 cxb 3590 3500ºk 36V CD on an hlg-120-1050b would be perfect!(150w)
Or if you want more power use 4 with an hlg-185-1400b for 200w!(4x50w)

There arent any 25w cobs that I am aware of that are very efficient.
Efficiency is the reason to switch to led cob lighting.
You will not run the 100w cobs at full power, but maybe 50 watts each and in the case of the CXB3590 it will be 56% efficient and have good spread with 200 watts or 112par watts

sounds good how do you think it will work if i make 8 of these to cover a 4x8 area of canopy is that equivelent to 2 1000 hps?

or 16 of them to cover an 8x8

ok so with 4 of those or 16 cxb 3590s in a 4x4 will equal 600watts and it will blow away 1000watts? has anyone tried a set up like this 4x4 space 16 3590s can that yield 2lbs?
1000watt hps is under 40% efficient, but the CXB3590 at 1.4A is over 56% efficient
That makes it 40 more efficient, but with better spectrum and less thermal dissipation
Less heat allows closer placement and the result is denser buds.
The spaced cobs verses the single hps gives a more even canopy of light for less larf on the edges

Why not CXB 3590?
If your going to spend that much, might as-well have the most efficient cobs.
There are a couple Manufacturers that use them now.
Ya if you're gonna be spending major coin, you should make your own. There's a video on YouTube from greensanta that literally, step by step shows you how. You can make a light with 20-28 cxB3590's rather than 3070's. But if you're not technically inclined, DEFINITELY get a TastyLed. That's what you're wanting.

im taking a look at it. but cost wise seems like a bad idea for large grows. too much start up
