Damnnn Daniel, Back at it again... this time with legal growing ;)

Hey all, it's been a minute so I just wanted to reintroduce myself to the forums again. This time im back with full legalization (within our laws limits) so I look forward to catching back up on the how to's and do's and don'ts.

I put my four into germ 2 days ago, 2 of which have already shot out their tap root and are now comfy cozy in their solo cups for now. & my other two, which were put into germ the same time started to crack but the tap root is only just now starting to come out. (here's to hoping those ones are still viable since I've had them for awhile)

Anyhow, I look forward to this journey once again with all the O.G members and all the new comers. If anyone would like to link me their grow journals so I can once again catch up, that would be great.

My Grow:
Indoor/Outdoor
Promix HP with some extra additives. Dolomite lime, Earthworm castings, Extra Mycorrhizae for the transplant.
General Organics (Go Box) Nutes.
600w HPS with supplemental 150w hps (if needed)
600w Metal Halide conversion Bulb (But going to try to keep it to natural sun for veg unless needed)

Assuming that you're in Canada unless you bought those seeds from an approved gov't supplier you're still technically not legal.

Of course they were legally sourced, otherwise I wouldn't of said it. and if they weren't legal obviously I wouldn't be sticking to our laws and guidelines on growing now huh? you a narc or something?

Oh yeah I'm a narc alright. lol

I've been talking about my plants in forums for years and not a one of them has been legal.

Just wanted to mention that point about the seeds in case you weren't aware. Many aren't and could find themselves in trouble thinking they were compliant with the law when they weren't. Judges are only to happy to point out that ignorance of the law is no excuse as they drop the gavel and levy their fines/jail time.

Didn't mean to sound critical but I'm an old fart so not always as sensitive as I could be.

Not a problem.

Just a quick update as to what's going on with my girls. My first two that popped are chugging along nicely.. Of the second batch that popped that were planted a day later, one had died so I had to re germ a single seed. The other that lived, as you can see is a little deformed. Not sure if it's just shit genetics with those seeds or what. Both sets of seeds were planted in the same medium so I can only attribute it to that. This first set of pics were week one of veg!

This set of pics were just taken today. The two bigger plants and the deformed one are now on week 2 and the baby is still on week one.

My temp and RH is all over the place this time around. Last time I grew I didn't have an issue when it came to that. Not sure if it was bc I was running my lights at night or what. But, this time around im running my lights through the day and I can't keep the temp and Rh in check.

Day 19 for the two big ones and the stunted one. Big one's were transplanted today. Going to wait for them to get used to their new surroundings then start LST in a few days.

Those new pots look awful dry for freshly transplanted. Did you not soak the whole pot?

No, not yet. just the perimeter/drip line. I plan on giving a good watering later this evening. I just wanted to get it settled into the new pot for now then give them each a gallon after everything settled and it dried back up a bit. They suck the water right up with the Promix HP so they tend to dry out pretty quick.

Speaking of, any recommendations for a top dressing so they don't dry up so quick? loving the way this soil is working out so far other than the having to water EVERY morning.

I always saturate the pots at the time of transplant.

I only use HP and like the way it dries on top. Helps prevent fungus gnats getting established and we got lots here tho I haven't had an infestation in years.

As a general rule I up-pot once the plants need water in less than 48 hours since the last. I like to rake up the surface so it breathes well. At each transplant I saw the bottom of the rootball off to get rid of any long, stringy roots. I shave down the sides if any there as well. We found a nice serrated bread knife at a garage sale a few years back that works really well for that. Wife is still looking for it.

Yea, I usually try to rake the top a bit too to help it breath better. What kind of benefits to do usually see from shaving her roots down? I'm always super careful when transplanting not to even touch the roots too much. The thought of taking a knife to them would make me extremely nervous, haha. I've always had the mindset of the more roots to eat up all the nutes, the better. That's partially why I also only watered the perimeter for now, so they can stretch out to the drier soil.

Roots branch out when they get cut off. Just a mechanical way of root pruning like what happens with smart pots. The whole root ball will quickly fill from top to bottom with fine feeder roots and greatly increase the points available for the plants to absorb nutrients.

When going from a 2L pot to 10L I usually see roots poking out of the drain holes in 4 or 5 days. Same when I up to a 20L which is the biggest I use. More like 16 - 18L depending on how full I get my #5 nursery pots.

I NEVER see any so-called transplant shock. I wait until the soil is near dry when I repot so the rootball holds together.. The new mix is well moistened with 1/4 strength nutes in RO water so when squeezed it holds together like a snowball but not oozing water. Fill the new pots up high enough to have the top level when the plant is dropped in. Sprinkle a bit of myco in the middle areas and spray some water on it so the plant has wet on it's freshly cut roots right away. Drop plant in then fill the sides tamping it down firmly but not too hard. Then water it in good with the same nute mix and let it sit in the runoff for an hour or so to make sure it's fully saturated before sitting it in a dry catch tray. By the next day you can tell they're loving it.

If just straight ProMix that I'm going to feed nothing but hydro nutes I skip the Myco.

I'm adding a bit of commercial composted sheep and steer manures and earthworm castings to the mix these days along with some myco. Burned some plants bad a week after planting in that when I fed them some molasses and seaweed ferts. A buddy who only grows organically figures the molasses caused a population explosion in the myco and they overfed the plants. No other nutes involved.

Hmm, maybe i'll try sawing one of my other two down then when it comes time to transplant them and see how the comparison goes. Doesn't hurt to experiment I guess and see what the results are. I've added 2 tbsp. of Mykos to each of the transplant holes before I repotted them and also threw in 2 and a half handfuls of earthworm castings to the mix when I mixed up the soil prior to the transplant.

Extra myco should work well with the Go-Box nutes. I bought one of those about 10 years ago and used it with the ProMix but got crappy results so most of it is still in the basement. I never had any myco tho and the HP was a couple years old so it's myco was long dead I bet. The bale was out in the carport all winter frozen solid too.

The stuff I got is a dry type with perlite, sand, lime and seaweed. Called MYKE by Premier Tech out of Quebec and is OMRI Listed organic. Going to have to grab another 1L can of it next time I get by the garden center.

Hopefully she goes good then. So do you think hold off on the black strap for awhile or just not use it at all? I usually don't end up using it til half way through flower anyway but if it's going to have an adverse reaction with the mykos, I won't even bother.
