Dave's First LED Grow Using Area 51

Did some tinkering today. That SCROG frame comes in handy:

The 3 PC fans together make a nice breeze flowing through the leaves. But I might eventually need to buy a stronger 120v fan. I put the CFLs in just to warm up the cabinet. They're 2700K, which I figure would be good for flowering. They raised the temp up a few degrees, just about what was needed.

It's nice how I was able to run the electrical cords along the SCROG frame. This will make it very simple to pull the whole works out of the cabinet with the lights and fans still running.

I see 4 tops trying to poke out. When they get longer I'll probably start LSTing them. Still very healthy.

Is that 6 weeks from seed, Dave?
I think it is. If I didn't have a hard stop on March 1st, I'd let her veg another week or two. But I definitely have to chop her down before then. By starting the flower phase now, I have maybe one week of wiggle room in case something goes wrong.

Hey I may be a bit late to the grow, but I'm here nonetheless... This is too cool I'm looking to do the same strain and LED's as well. I guess I'll be taking notes!

Welcome Sneaky! So far it's going pretty well. I'm extremely happy with the Area 51 LED panel. So far this is the healthiest plant I've grown by far. I hope I don't disappoint you.

What LED panel do you have?

Looking good mate. My a51 190 turns up after new years!
Gonna finish my current grow off with it hopefully, be 3 weeks or so of it left by the time it gets here.
Plant looks great, can't wait for my panel!

That is a healthy looking girl you have there, Dave.
Such big, thick, Indica leaves, she's gonna knock you on your ass!
I'm glad to see that your Area 51 light is performing so well for you.
I'm also glad to see that the CFL's did the trick for your temperature issues.
Keep up the good work, sir.

Thanks Karma. Coming from you, that means a lot. Got the temp up to 74 degrees now. Still looking good today. Those fan leaves are so dark green they must be full of chlorophyll. Adding the extra Cal/Mag really made a difference. And the light is working even better than I expected.

Good shit player! Have you considered just getting one of those 6" clip on fans? I know they're a lil out of season in the US, but you can find them for $10 or less online. May be perfect for your air circulation needs.

Yeah, that's what I've been thinking of putting in there. I just need a little one. I'll probably get one from Amazon.

Just a quick photo update. tds fell from 1230 ppm last week to 890 ppm today.

This looks like the Angelina Jolie of pot plants to me. She's in super shape. Healthy, fit and sexy!

The 4 tops are getting bigger. It's about time to start training them to spread apart. I just need our visitors to leave and go back home before I can pull the plant out of my cabinet to work on it.

Currently getting my feet wet, and building a smaller (120w) light with a couple cheap chinese led's and a cree 2530, gonna see how this goes and decide whether to DIY a larger panel or pick up quality pre made panel. So far you seem to be doing quite swell, I don't think a disappointment is coming at all :-o

I love this setup and grow. Well done. I'm in the market for a LED panel as soon as I get some extra cash in so this is pretty helpful. Thanks!

Changed the water last night and finally started to train some of the branches to spread apart. I'm finding out how easy & convenient it is to pull my system out of its cabinet and swap out the res with a clean one.

⬇ Here it is propped up and ready to swap out the res.

⬇ You can see all the sediment that accumulated during the past week.

⬇ Slid the clean res under the roots at the same time that I slid the old res out. Don't want to let them get damaged.

⬇ Here's the cabinet with the system pulled out.

⬇ I tied down the 7 tallest tops. It's not easy to find a branch in that thick pile of leaves. Had to be very careful not to damage any leaves.

⬇ Back in her cabinet for a quick flush for about 3 hours.

⬇ Checking the roots underneath. A little brown above the water's surface, but that's normal.

⬇ Looking much better after the flush and starting to feed her with nutes. Her leaves are spread out again.

Plant's spreading out wider, almost touching one fan now. I tied branches down more today and trimmed the underbrush away:

More angles:

I need to set up the SCROG screen pretty soon, probably this weekend.
