day 50 and i have amber

Hello all This is day 50 on the Afgan and I'm seeing a couple amber heads so i'm thinking of chopping her tomorrow. but some of the buds still have pink and white hairs this is were im getting confused. I want as potent of smoke as I can . now the other plant I think still has a while all white hairs still no amberDSCF1503.jpgDSCF1507.jpgDSCF1508.jpgDSCF1504.jpgDSCF1505.jpgDSCF1506.jpg either way what a Ride ill call this first grow a success .;-)
 
wait, check the trichomes on the buds not the leafs. the leafs will turn amber couple weeks before buds.

do you mean the sugar leaves? or the water leaves because my buds have all kinds of sugar leaves I cant even see the bud lol well the top:) thanks for the advice.!
 
She looks like she has a little bit to go. Do you know how many days they say to flower? Most of my girls I go 70 days. But I usually run OG strains. I would take her atleast another 15 days. Don't rush her you should be able to tell. Or invest in a small scope only like $20 or less.

? I do have a 30x scope and the 2 Afgan im seeing a little amber. the other one in the pic ide say has a bit too go so many hairs still

With an indica you probably want 25% or so amber. If you are seeing a couple of amber heads, I would say you have a couple of weeks to go yet. They look very early from the pictures, but you can't judge ripeness from just looking.
 
Quick follow up question. if amber tricombs means the plant has reached max THC levels , why then do we allow the plant too degrade any further before harvest ?.. so why do we wait till 10% amber or what ever the number was.

Well, my logic behind this is... You want the largest amount of crystals CLOUDY when you harvest.
Crystal production probably hits it's peak around 6 1/2 weeks into flower, so you want those turning cloudy which means the crystals that started forming at weeks 2-4 1/2 or so are turning amber.
It also affects the buzz. Degrading THC gives more of a couchlock type buzz where as cloudy gives more head buzz. Being an indica, most people go for more hard-hitting, couchlock which would be closer to 20-25% amber.
 
Insane looking plants there bro!!! I never knew the hairs can turn pink too. U must be proud of them. Hope u post more pics at harvest time. Good job and keep growing:mrgreen:
 
You can just harvest the ripe buds and let the other mature. I think you are harvesting earll.

A lot of people (myself included) would answer this question by saying you don't want amber for exactly that reason. However, because the trichs don't all turn at the same time you're going to have some that are ahead of the majority, then the majority and then the laggards. I'm of the school that say you want the majority cloudy, very few clear and very few amber (just to ensure there aren't too many clear). So I cut when I see the first tinge of amber as long as 85%-90% or so is cloudy. Also, the bud continues to ripen after being harvested as it hangs dry, so if you harvest at 5% amber you'll end up with 10% amber or so.

The strain is the primary indicator of the kind of high you're going to get, so rather than letting THC degrade while trying to influence the high/stone, just pick a strain that has the characteristics you want and harvest before heavy degradation sets in!

Just MHO -- I'm sure you'll get lots of varying opinions and will have to choose what makes sense to you.
 
I am happy with my choice, the Afgan was ready took them down over the last couple weeks and now the last girl which is a strain of unknow origin.. good seeds tho. and she produced in one plant the same as both afgans put together and much bigger buds but not as resisin but citrusy smellin mmm I love her
