Deep container aeroponics?

Has anyone came across anyone constructing a deep container aeroponic system? By this I mean, instead of there only being about 5-10 inches for the roots to hang - you have 3-4 feet. This way there is no jumbled mass at the bottom that get poor DO to the roots.

I am trying to come up with a design that uses trash cans, or perhaps a wide PVC tube. But don't know how to go about adding the misters. About how close to the misters spray? I am thinking there would need to be 3-4 "levels" of misters.

Another technical problem that i'm sure i can fix with more thinking is how to make the tubing circular to conform to the sides of the trash can. In all DIY plans i have seen these mister hoses are made from PVC which obviously can only be constructed into squares.

Here is a quick sketch for the visual ones.

I am doing this with an 18 gal roughneck with six sites using 4 gal of solution.

I canned the misters becuse they wlll clog and use four piss size streams from a diy manifold with a 160gph pump running one hour on then one hour off.

Your best bet would be to work on root density vs. length.

It isnt about length, it's about not having the roots get all matted up and lay on the ground. By doing this it gives more surface area to the roots thus providing more dissolved oxygen to the roots.
