Thanks :). While it is cool to be able to check in on them, I've found it makes me more homesick. Still have a couple days before I head back, so I'm going to hold off checking on them.

I think of all the attention I have to give my hydro grow. I check on them and make adjustments twice a day.
You drop them in soil, cut there heads off and plug in a plastic bottle with water then leave them for a couple weeks.

Makes me re-think this hydro thing.

Ya, will be interesting to see how everything looks when I return and then what my ultimate yield is after flowering in soil. I'll take some pics of the "vacation setup" to show what it looks like when I walk in the door.

Ok - finally back from vacation. Everything looks good. Too good, really. They grew quite a bit and now stand roughly 22" tall. I contemplated topping them again before flipping the switch because this strain gets very tall in flower, but in the end I've decided to flip to 12/12 tomorrow and just see what happens. Worst case, I'll have to bend them a bit and do some creative tieing.

Also included some shots of my vacation setup. I basically substitute a 4 bulb 2' T5 for the 400MH and use the Plantastics to make sure they have enough water. It's not perfect (they stretched), but it gets the job done.

... 4 bulb 2' T5 ...
I was wondering how the temp of your T5 is.
Is the top of the fixture warm or hot to the touch?
Does it raise the temp of the cabinet?
If so by about how much over the temp out side the cabinet?

I'm thinking of using a 8 bulb 4' T5 in a cabinet.

Great thread. Lots of good information.

Thx

I would say it's warm to the touch. Can lay my hand across the fixture without getting burned. Not sure exactly how it raises the temp, not by much. Probably just slightly more than my 400 in the cool tube.

The pump I use to water died on me tonight. Anyone recommend a replacement? 296 gph. It was a lifeguard aquatics 1200 model. Seemed to be working fine, not sure why it died. I mix foxfarm liquid nutrients and soluables into my water prior to pumping... It should be able to handle that right?

Most important - Was able to confirm a female this evening. It's plant #2.

Some dead leaves at the bottom. All seem to just dry up and fall off. Always on the bottom. I'm thinking either the plant is using them while they're flowering or they weren't getting light. Either way, doesn't appear to be any kind of sickness, so I'm not worried about it. Here is before and after cleanup on one plant. Only pulled off leaves that would fall off in my hand.

Found this a couple days ago on one single leaf... a bit concerning, but no additional holes anywhere. Beginning to think maybe I tore the leaf somehow.

Here's the group after a full watering with nutrients tonight. FoxFarm schedule week 5 & 1tsp/gal CalMag+. Things are lookin good I think.

Yea you should have no problem with nutrients in the water. Most of the pumps I get have a sponge filter that I rinse out every couple res changes. I havent found one brand thats better then another though.

Thx cruzer. Got this one at the local pet store. From what I read online, getting a warranty replacement out of the company is nearly impossible. I think I'll buy a new one and swap this one out before returning it for a refund as defective. If the next one breaks too, I'll switch to a brand from the local hydro shop. Pain in the ass watering w/o it.

I'm seeing balls in the last day or two. :cuss:

Have the one confirmed female (plant #2) and another that doesn't have any sex showing (plant #6), so I'm hoping it's female. The remainder either are male or really look male.

I usually will keep suspected males until I see the second sac in a cluster forming. Took out one tonight and will take another tomorrow.

I also have two other Avalanche in my flowering tent which started at about the same time as these. If either of those are female, I'm going to add them to the cabinet in place of the males. Best I can hope for at this point is 4 females total I think.

Been using plant supports as well. This strain is known for not being able to support itself, but I think I contributed to the problem with how many times I topped. If I had just topped a single time and flowered, I'd be in a better position I think.

Confirmed 2 females out of 7 plants. Not great numbers, but what are you gonna do? I think one of my back-up Avalanche plants in the flowering tent is female, so that would give me 3. I can live with that. Will look to post some pics this weekend.
