DeSantis signs bill requiring Florida students, professors to register political views with state

DeSantis is a douchebag. and power seeker. Although I like that he ended the lockdown and mask theater, He seems like the kind of idiot that would illegalize burning flags, "to protect freedom".

Now that, that's out of the way, why would it be bad for State funded universities to "lose funding" ?

If a person's beliefs don't align with funding Universities, isn't it hypocritical to make them fund those Universities ?

No, because it's asking the impossible and would actually expand the thing you dislike, because it opens the door to allowing an individual to specify exactly where and how much of their tax dollars go and with all the people and possible options and amounts. You'd need to employ half the country into the gov't to manage RR ekonomiks. I know it's tough for a white male American to deal with not feeling so special that the nation should conform to exactly how they want it. Perhaps the downside of the "everyone is awesome!" attitude. We aimed for confidence, but landed deep into self-importance and narcissism.

It is hubris to think that you won't one day be in a bad way getting taken care of by people who went through these universities.

sounds Nazi-like to me.

it would be bad to lose funding because = no resources.

the individual person is not funding the university- state and fed are and those who gift.

he's going to take on the Florida colleges? good luck with that.

That was a response that didn't really address my point. Kind of sidesteps it.

My point was, if an individual rightfully complains about being forced to declare their ideology because of some stupid proposed Governor policy, why wouldn't that same individual be sympathetic when another individual doesn't want to be forced to fund something they have no use for, like a State run University ?

You mention the word "impossible" dismissively and use the word incorrectly when attempting to rebut my question / commentary.

It is literally not impossible, it is unlikely, but that isn't because it's not a good idea, it's because most people are like you, they think a thing not done or which hasn't been done or is not likely to occur as being impossible.

It's only unlikely because people are caught in partisan politics and don't realize how foolish they look when they whine about being captive to a government policy out of one side of their mouth, all the while championing ANOTHER government policy that they like which burdens other people in the way they were just whining about being burdened. (read that twice if you have to, it does make sense)

It's very possible for DeSantis to butt out of peoples lives and for people not to be forced to fund something. like a University if they'd prefer not to. You, like most people want one of the things and don't want one of the other things. Two sides to the same coin. You would inflict your idea on people who disagree with you, as they would inflict their ideas on you. The obvious POSSIBLE solution is for both to stop inflicting on the others.

DeSantis is not a "freedom Governor". There aren't any. None. The two words are so dissimilar when combined either in thought or in print they epitomize oxymoronism. (I made that word up) . With that said, I don't think he is a Nazi, but I don't care for him.

Yes, it can be bad to lose funding. Put out a good product and don't acquire funding via force. It's bad to force people to pay for something they have no use for right?

Of course individuals DO fund the University ultimately. Who does the State take the money from in the first place?

It is hubris to think that other peoples money is something you can form a political gang and TAKE from them without it being an act of aggression.
You can call me a troll all you want, but I doubt you'll acknowledge what I just said.

If you or I had what we thought was a good idea and asked people to fund us, that would be acceptable. Some people could say no thanks. No hubris on our part.

If you or I had an idea and got lots of our friends to join us to MAKE others fund our ideas, what kind of people would you say we've become?
Hubris alert !! Hubris alert!!

As far as being taken care of by people that went thru a particular University etc., that is a weak non sequitur and sort of makes me feel bad for you. I hope you can form relationships with people who might help you when you need it. I suggest beginning those relationships by respecting others wishes and refraining from forcing your ideas on others.

As an aside I don't like DeSantis and would kick him in the balls if he annoyed me or bossed me around too much. WHAM!! Right in the nuts.

You are full of shit.

People collecting a pay check having their taxes withheld and diverted to the government, that does things like pay for roads that those businesses need to exist, is not being 'forced'. If you were such a snowflake about taxes being paid, you could choose to work for cash.

Your feeling bad for me troll is funny, thanks for that. You rely on society, and are not paying for everything you are benefitting from by using our infrastructure. Otherwise you wouldn't have the ability to post in the forum.

Full of shit ? Sigh. That's not an argument. I admit to having a sharp wit and a good sense of humor.

If taxation isn't "forced" why do they take your house if you don't pay because you don't agree with where some or all of the money goes? Isn't that kind of a hubrisesque way of being ? (Yes I made up the word hubrisesque)

Would it be possible to pay for goods and services you DO want / do use, while not being forced to pay for things you don't want / don't use ? Obviously, yes it would be. Roads aren't paid for with "government money" , they are paid for with your money. Stop being obtuse please.

I think it's wrong to force a person to pay for something they don't want and don't use, why don't you ? I don't think I should force you to pay for my ideas if you'd prefer not to participate. How come you like that stuff ?

I think DeSantis is wrong for proposing an ideology checkpoint. If people want to be commies or socialists, they should be free to do that, just not free to force it on others.

Just because you say things do not make them true. I am sure you have this troll all well thought out and have all your little bullshit things that you think are clever, but you are not.

The areas of our nation are full of people who abandon homes, dump chemicals and trash, and are eventually going to pay to clean the pollution. Paying taxes to the areas you live in benefit you directly, even if you are too much of a troll to admit it.

You have conflated a good thing, "cleaning shit up" with "it's okay to force disinterested / uninvolved people " to participate in something, which is a bad thing.

It's like rape versus consensual sex. They both involve similar body parts, but they use a vastly different means. Please don't rape nonpolluters. Find the person who is responsible and hold them accountable = good thing. Picking the pocket of those not involved = not a good thing...smacks of hubris.

People tend to take better care of their own property than they take care of others property or so called "public property". Not to mention we know government is one of the biggest polluters of all time right ?

Thank you for anticipating my cleveritude.

Riiight, wait until people are dead to see if they polluted the shit out of their properties before we figure out how to tax them while those same idiots use the public resources that you pretend like you are not choosing to use all the time.

As for your 'government is biggest polluter' troll, Im guessing whatever stupid shit you have to say leads to smoking of contrail conspiracy, and I am not really interested in going down that rabbit hole tonight.

This is more conflation though. It's quite possible to separate goods and services a person actually wants from "bads and disservices" some people may not want or use, but are forced to pay for.

So DeSantis is bad when he wants to make people do his bidding against their will, but your ideas aren't bad when you want to force them on others who don't want to "benefit" from them ?

There's no rabbit hole, just the echo sound of you ignoring your own duplicity while saying others are filled with hubris.
