Still laughin 24 hrs later! Bitchin about 50 or 100 then wants to buy $1000 light? ha ha ha..................
It's all about psychology. Some people just need to feel they're getting the better deal they're entitled to, or they had control over the transaction.

From the traffic on this forum, I'd speculate A51's volume has tripled in the past year. If that's true and A51 is becoming more mainstream, I think Jeff should get better at the soft skills of business. It's just reality that he'll be dealing with more "needy" customers who just need a stroke, a smile, $20 tossed in their direction.

I think if he has too man of these reports on the web it's going to hold him back. Maybe he's ok with being the supplier to less sensitive growers who don't sweat little stuff (and feel they're part of the A51 team, which is more technically driven than glad-handling). But, if that's the space he wants to occupy, I'd suggest making it clearer on his web site. A theme, a direct statement, to the effect of "we're geared to deal with serious growers seeking the latest technology, and who value a no-nonsense light supplier. If you need a more consumer-oriented "experience," both we and you will be happier if you look elsewhere."

If that's how it is, I think it would be better to get ahead of it. If it's not how it is, I'd get used to kissing butt and try to avoid episodes like this. I don't think it's worth the $40 or whatever tstick can't get past. Make it back in volume. Treat it as an average.

That was after I gave you the link. I've given it to you 3-4 times. Here it is again:

If they use Bridgelux, why would they say "such as Epistar?" How should we interpret that? The way this usually works: a disreputable LED company will use Bridgelux (or Cree) once, and then claim "we use Bridgelux." Or, they'll use one diode in their fixture.

Considering PlatinumLED's disreputable practice of ripping off AdvancedLED's name/image, I wouldn't give them much benefit of the doubt when they say they use diodes "such as Epistar." I would interpret that to mean Epistar.

To me it is absolutely stunning that we're having this discussion about such a disreputable LED brand all because you wee-wee'd yourself about Area 51 which is top-notch.

If I were you, I'd buy a PlatinumLED and prove everyone's wrong. :)
And again, where does their website say "Epistar"?

You should go into to the LED business because you know it all already.

What's next pull out the rulers ?
I didn't get that at all. I thought @sethimus 's observation was useful. Tstick has a self interest. Wants and needs. A finite amount of time, money, and options available to meet those wants and needs.

If his wants and needs were to have the best light for the best light for the money (barring the time and skill cost of making his own), he could choose it's in his interest to "eat" the $50 he feels he's being gyped out of (just because everyone else is getting $50 off) and move on growing with the best light for the money.

Instead, he's choosing to make the "experience" an issue. He'll pay more for less light. Spend time which could be spent making a light, working at $20 per hour (national average?), growing more weed. But, instead it's the "experience."

His wants and needs are less tangible, more psychological. I believe once he's satisfied those needs he'll regret limiting his more tangible options.

That's the spirit I got from sethium's post.

Wow. You're still going. This is wasted energy. You could have built a beautiful COB light by now. I spent over 2 grand on a51 lights, and I never got a discount. I don't expect one either. I'm 100% convinced they are the best lights short of building your own. You think buying a 200 watt $1000 Apache Tech light will help?

I actually bought a Platinum P150 to play with in veg. They're dark gray. Not white. It's cool to check out the colorful lights baked. But, that light is not comparable to an Area 51. If you had to get the watts up to flower with it, it would end up costing so much money you're better off investing in a better product that's proven. (Area 51)

Stop bitching and build this.

208 watt light parts list

(4) Cree cxa3070 3000k
(4) Meanwell LPC-60-1400
(4) Alpine Arctic 11
(1) Bud Industries 12x17 inch aluminum box
(4) 1.5 inch L brackets
(16) #6 1/2 inch screws
(8) #6 1/4 inch screws
(1) Cell Phone charger
(1) Power cord

Set the COB's about 16" apart.
Nice! Thanks for the information. There's no way I'm building that! lol!

Check it…

ONCE AND FOR ALL…

I HAVE NO COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE LIGHTS THAT AREA 51 MAKES! OKAY? Jeezus fuckin' Keeerist!

I know that reading all these words is hard for some of you… especially the people who are replying as if I came on here and started bashing the quality of the lights that Area 51 makes….but go back through the thread and try to read the posts s-l-o-w-l-y before you make another response about this. Okay? ….and then STFU.

I KNOW they make great lights. That's why I wanted to continue to give them more money and buy more lights. But the prices/discounts thing is/was too ambiguous and this Jeff character seems a little bit off. So, based on that, I'll take my business elsewhere. Simple as that. Nice lights but not worth it to me based on the principle.

Let me just add…

It's obviously not just I who had questions about this issue. The evidence is in the fact that he put the very question on his "FAQ" page. That means "Frequently Asked Questions"…frequently. Obviously some of the people who asked that question and got the response he made to it, didn't care. And, as I already stated, early-on in this thread, the $50 cash, itself, isn't a big deal to me, either. It's just that I don't like someone who gives me $50 cash and then, let's say, "reallocates" it in some ambiguous way. I don't care if anyone agrees with me or not about this issue. I'm not trying to be in the clique. Okay? The clubhouse is safe! :)

Jeff should have waited until Princess Tstick got her 50 dollars off before discounting his lights for everyone. What a horrible person.

If you don't agree with Tstick you're part of a fan boy club lmao

Ironic that you're not responding directly to me, but, instead, speaking about me to "the group" ...and yet deny being into the club. lmfao

Yes I'm addressing anyone who opens this thread and reads your petty little complaint.

What does gangsta have to do with anything?

You're trying to bash a company for not selling you a light at a loss and it's pathetic.

Almost as pathetic as you talking shit on Blowincherypie's grows when just last year you were on this forum asking people how to flip plants to flower.

Like I'm going to get into a discussion about growing in this thread so that you can try and find something else to hate on me for doing "wrong"…and none of it has to do with you! That's what's really "funny". But maybe you are one of those mouthes that's always going off from the back of the crowd….so continue barking all you want. Pathetic is right.

He didn't give you $50 off. He gave you a loyalty reward, something like a time-delayed volume discount. He then changed his prices to simply give it to everyone.

You're getting what you expected. The only thing you're having trouble accepting is that it was given to everyone. There's a small basis of reasonableness in your objection. Everyone else gets the discount without having to spend more on their first light like you did. But, why should that concern you? You're still getting the discount you expected when you bought your first light.

Did you buy the first light with the expectation everyone would have to pay more for their first light?

Post a direct link where it states Epistar on their website. Stop trying to bullshit people.
I have, multiple times. In this thread. In direct response to you. (Once in the PlatinumLED thread started by @JimmyIndica .).

Why do you believe posting it again will turn out differently for you?

I don't see what you are talking about and I checked your links. Just post a direct link and quit bullshitting around.

It's perfectly reasonable to ask why a coupon code doesn't work anymore. Not accepting what is a perfectly reasonable answer isn't.

If I were Jeff, I'd put a link to this thread in his FAQ and say "this is why I made the pricing simpler. All it takes is one person to make an good gesture turn into a waste of time."

For the 5th or 6th time:

Platinum Series LED Lights use only top quality 3w high output LEDs from makers such as US made Bridgelux and Epistar

Spend more time looking at that page. Use your browser's search feature for the word "epistar."

You're close to being placed on ignore.

There are a lot of people here willing to help new members. I'm sorry to say that namecalling and disputing people who know more than you do, demanding they prove to you a light is inferior just because you can't lower yourself to use the best light commercially available for the money will prove counter productive to your goals.

I see it now. I didn't get that far into their website yet. I was going off the front page that stated Bridgelux. So other than Area 51 there are no Cree only lights available besides the Advanced veg light?
