Ursus marijanus
The Hejnal mariacki (Reveille of St. Mary's) has been played every day in Poland for close to 800 years. The legend is that the first playing was by a bugler whose timely warning allowed the townspeople to defend effectively against one of Genghis Khan's raids. The last note is stopped short in honor of the bugler, who took a Mongol arrow to the throat. Two raids are candidates for the original event, in 1241 and 1259. cn
