Does anybody have info on taking a clone using fresh Aloe Vera?

------------------------

A little background:

DIY - Aero Cloner

Mom's were just fed a guano tea and molasses a few days ago. Mom on left = SWOG (Skywalker OG) | Mom on the Right = SNOG (Unknown genetics)

My plan is to take a Aloe spear and mush up the gel. Then I will take a clipping clean it up as normal and dip it. Stick it it into the aero cloner (Ph'd Tap Water).

I want to do 6 dipped and 6 clean.

Obviously the Aloe Vera Gel will be washed into the water. So I suppose the experiment is "Will Cannabis root faster in Aloe Vera water alone or should it be dipped in the gel first?"

Hypothesis = Dipped will be better.

If My hypothesis is correct my next test will be to dip all of them and then add the remaining gel straight to the water. ****EDIT**** I will be doing this anyway.

----------------------------------------

My Aloe Vera Plant is very hearty I have ripped off new little growth and tossed it on the ground. Came back a couple of days later and the little f***er had rooted itself.

-----------------------------
-----------------------------

Please post any info regarding the use of Aloe Vera or any other natural plant used for cloning. I have tried the ol' Google machine but have only found incomplete journals or info about literally cloning Aloe Vera.

Thanks in advance RIU!

if you dont have rooting gel/powder dont worry. you have a bubble style cloner so you are good. i add 1/2 cup h2o2 to 1 gallon of water in my air bubble cloner. so far clone fing loves it it laid down for a nap after it was cut (droopy) then next morning puff standing proud and stong.
clone day1.jpgthis was next morning. also the fim was 5 days before cloning so im seeing if it will continue growing them. which im sure it will i mist her 3 times a day also.

Well I have CloneX but it is old and I have an abundance Aloe Vera that is fresh. I have taken clones in rockwool with huge success but I travel to much to mist them everyday and make sure they are watered.

So I built this thing and so far have had maybe 70 - 80% success with little to no maintenance once it is setup. <----This was using the "Old CloneX" with a couple of drop of superthrive. Then I tried straight tap water and the results were about the same. But it takes forever for them to root.

So I did some research and found that a ton of organic growers use aloe vera powder and what not throughout their grows. Why not use it for cloning?

it cant hurt. aloe vera is good for them as for us. i use clonex this time. when i run out i might add some aloe vera in cloning. to really speed it up you have to have heat/air bubbling/h2o2/dome 80%rh/mist 3 times daily. ill see hwo long mine takes. im guessing 10-14 days.

So did some more research and I am finding that people have mixed 2 tbs/ gallon.

So I will be mushing up 150 ml ~10 tbs. of Aloe Vera. Using this for the dip and dumping the remaining into my 5 gallon rez.

Here is an article about the breakdown of Aloe Vera
----Just to be clear ---- I barley understand it, haha. But it looks good.

I do know that Aloe Vera used for human consumption is very good. We do a lemon and Aloe Vera "Tea" drink every couple of months for about 10 days. Flushes everything out of the body and helps balance your internal PH. Plus a power house of nutrients. Also helps with the Flora and Faunas inside your stomach. <---So I am assuming (because I am not a scientist) that this will be equally good for a newly developing clone.

Theres is many things lying around that have natural plant hormones in them, that will encourage early roots, aspirin, willow tea and honey are just a few, my favorite is willow tree tea, and its good for hangovers too!

While I was running through Google I saw a lot of side articles about Willow. Is this something that just grows like crazy? I have heard of a Weeping Willow tree but I am not sure what "Willow" is.

I would interested in trying honey too.

Aloe was chosen because it just grows like crazy in my garden outside. And I am a huge fan of not having to buy anything.

Don't forget you can give it to your plants as a foliar and or root drench......aloe contains beneficial enzymes, amino acids and secondary Metabolites that keep your plants healthy and vigorous.......I don't grow without it......

Go to the the organic section. I am trying to think of his name but he uses aloe vera for cloning. Hes smart and uses aloe only. When I remeber his name ill post it

Thanks for this. What kind of ratio do you do? Scoop some into the spray bottle and start squirting?

Appreciate it. I almost posted this in the organic section but with an aero cloner I suppose it is not organic. plus I only use organics for my mom's and outside garden.

---***Big Note__This is an experiment. I have not tested this before so I do not know what will happen. Do not blame me if you accidentally kill your clones***--- Wait till the end of the experiment and see if I kill mine first.

So I took the clones last night. Below is my entire process so that everyone can follow along. The point of this thread is to now prove rather or not dipping fresh cutting in aloe gel will be better than not dipping and just spraying them with aloe vera gel water.

First things first we need to prep the Aloe Vera. (I was later informed that I should have let the Aloe Vera blades sit out for 30 mins to let the sap escape) <---- We will see what happens because I did not do this.

I cut three blades off. Cut the tops and sides off. Then fillet the leaf. Take a spoon and scoop the goo into a measuring cup or something similar.

IMG_3710.jpgIMG_3711.jpgIMG_3712.jpg

It just so happens that I aimed for 150 ml and I was pretty damn close. Throw all the goo into a food processor and pulse it a few times.

IMG_3714.jpgIMG_3715.jpg

You will wind up with something like this. (Stuff is super sticky and gooey)

IMG_3717.jpg

I watered the Mother Plant a couple of days ago. I also did a guano tea mixed with molasses to make sure she was well fed and healthy. I am a believer that a healthy happy mom will result in happy healthy clones.

Oh the Mother is called SNOG (Mystery genetics 80/20 Indica/ Sativa) <---Look at my sig for a description somewhere in my log.

IMG_3719.jpg

I select my clone and then count 5 nodes down and that is where I make my first cut. Then remove the bottom node (***I later removed the next node up on some of them because they were to tall***). After they are cleaned up I make another cut at the bottom, using a 45 degree angle. Dip (for half of the clones I took, because there needs to be some kind of control) straight into the Aloe Vera gel.

IMG_3720.jpgIMG_3723.jpgIMG_3724.jpg

Take the cutting and place her into the cloner. Repeat until you have the amount needed. I also do a little trimming of the larger fan leaves. Not sure if it is really necessary in an aero cloner but its a habit that I have kept from doing Rockwool.

IMG_3726.jpgIMG_3727.jpgIMG_3734.jpgIMG_3732.jpgIMG_3735.jpg

Stop Drink a beer and smoke a joint

IMG_3737.jpg

And back to the same steps

IMG_3739.jpgIMG_3741.jpgIMG_3742.jpgIMG_3743.jpgIMG_3745.jpgIMG_3750.jpg

So All of the dipped girls are now in their plugs. Now it is time for the semi control group. No dip with aloe vera water. Ratio = 150ml (~10 tbs)/ 5 gallons of water.

IMG_3752.jpg

Back to taking clones ----These are no dip

IMG_3753.jpgIMG_3754.jpgIMG_3759.jpg

Here is the SNOG mom after her haircut and 12 clones. And of course all her little babies next to her.

IMG_3760.jpgIMG_3762.jpg

And that is it for night 1. I will update again in 5 days or so. Unless something catastrophic happens like, OMG they have roots overnight or ... Shit they are all dead.

Anyway feel free to post. Especially any scientific info on Aloe Vera.

Oh I almost forgot ---- To my surprise the clones that were dipped seemed to immediately fall over and become unhappy. The ones that went un dipped looked healthy and happy. Good news is when I checked them this morning all of the girls were perky and healthy.

One more side note. I did go back and trim one more node on some of the taller clones also help the stems reach further into the cloning tub.

FYI: Water PH = 6...ish

Aspirin works really well too! Must make them handle the pain better?
That is interesting after a little research I found: salicylic acid
This is the ingredient that is in Aloe Vera, Cloning Hormones and Willow (Still not 100 % sure what this is- looks like a stick with leaf buds). Apparently this is the magic ingredient. Although, Aloe Vera has minimal amount compared to the "Willow".

I have also read about using honey but I haven't researched it enough. I looked on the back of my Clone-X soution to see ingredients but none are listed. It does show B vitamins though. And guess what has a ton of B vitamins in it! That's right, Aloe Vera.

Thanks DC. It is nice to appreciated, lol. It is a lot of work putting it all together and keeping it organized.

Also, if anyone has info on: salicylic acid Please feel free to post or Even better a list of plants and things that contain this special ingredient.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BTW RIU - Aloe Vera is very nutritional and good for our bodies (people). I use to have a link to a really good website all about the benefits of Aloe Vera and the stuff works great. My girlfriend and I make a Aloe and lemon tea every couple of months. I wonder about a coconut oil, honey, lemon and aloe vera drink. <----Sounds healthy
