DIY Closet DWC Grow - First grow ever

I think the most surprising thing to me was how much the Hindu Skunk developed early and the White Widow late. I mean the HS were seemingly fully developed by week 4 of flowering, then they just grew some more trichs and got a bit bigger.... The WW has just started to really start blossoming late week 6 and most of week 7.

Jig,
Trust me when i tell you that you will want to give the white widow the full 8-9 weeks. Something happens to the white widow later on in the end that is what makes the strain famous! Another grower here agrees with me that it is like the buds were laced by resin fairies in the middle of the night!!LOL!!
Really makes the difference in high and freaking stoned out of your mind! The difference in two hits to put the pipe down or just one good one to be done for the next two hours............seriously:hump: be patient with the widow and you'll be pleased you did!

The White widow isn't really sticky much at all. Both buds are dense... but the white widow is crazy dense. I mean you squeeze it and it feels like a rock with some moss on it. Like a tiny tiny bit squishy, but only the very outside... it seriously feels like there is a rock in the middle of the buds.

I had the same thing on my widow, but the plants were already really sticky in the first three to four weeks. AAAHHHHHH.......:hump:.....I bet if you put a white widow under MH lighting you would notice a big difference. Someone told me here awhile back that MH produces more trichs over HPS.....not sure why, that might be the difference.

Smell wise.... The white widow barely smells at all, if anything there is a tiny deisel smell to it. I'm not good at describing smells, so that's what you get, haha.
Mine had an almost sweet sour smell

Things look great JIG, cant wait to see these girls come down!!! good luck to ya'!!!!:joint:

Could you post a pic of your stems going into the screen again sometime? I was trying to show it to a friend and I went back about 15 pages with no luck lol.

I could help you with some taste testing, trimming, etc. and give you my 'professional' opinion.

As for harvest, Just don't put wet buds in a jar or else they will get mold. Too dry can be fixed with a green leaf in ur curing jar. I would wait for the stem to snap then get rid of all the stem u can and put in the jar. I think honey oil's the easiest extraction method if u don't have bags for the trim.
This is the hardest part. I usually smoke some of the wet buds while others dry n cure. Wet buds aren't great but they keep me from paying for herb. Nothing beats slow dried and cured bud and with a good flush curing seems to be optional for me. Hope this helps some

Not much has happened aside from more growth, and some exciting trich developments... details to follow.

Exciting news... I beleive the fairies made a test run last night. All of a sudden the WW is starting to look crystally. I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings. Tomorrow marks Day 52 since the pistals first showed. I still need to re-check the trichs, but I think less than a week left. I like heavy indica so I'm letting these plants get as mature as I can without going to far.

I bought the screen at Home Depot. 2"x 2" is the best in my opinion. It should be about 10-12" off the top of the growing medium. Mine is 12" up and I wished it was only 10" so I had all that plant back. Everything under the screen dies from shade, I picked it off pretty early because of the humidity. It would be best to fix the screen to the lid of your tank. And you can make the screen as big as your room, and just spread the plants around as much as possible.

I think it would increase your yeild, but it is quite a bit of work to train the plants every day for 2 weeks or so.

The selflessness is amazing. Would I need to pay you for your services, haha.

I like the leaf trick. Back in the day when our herb would dry out (because we had to stretch it forever) we would put the sac in another zip lock that we would flick wet fingers into. I guess like a mini humidity dome.

I know I can look all this up, but for the honey oil... can I use just fan leaves and stems... or should I use the frosty stuff. I would like to try and make hash with the frosty trim, them make something with the stuff I already have, then the regular trim, plus the stems.

I'm worn down by this grow and everything but all you guys really give me the energy to keep going. Not like I'm going to quit growing my plants, but you help me keep focused and enthused. You guys make me want to keep doing my journal and sharing. I really appreciate it... and all the help too. I can honestly say I could not have grown these pretty plants without you all (well maybe without a couple of you, hahaha just kidding).

I'd take pictures, but it's the middle of the night for them. Tomorrow, I promise. You guys have got to see the new white widow... not only the trichs but they keep getting bigger... more popcorn popping, more baby aliens (i hope you guys know what I'm talking about).

:peace:

Im excited for new pics, and happy you didnt give up on your journal. I think its helping lots of people out. I didnt know you liked a heavy indica, you know I think thats what Im more into to. Sativas can make me a little over active and sometimes anctious, well indica really relaxes me and makes me just enjoy everything.

yay for new pics!

I would only try and use primo trim for honey oil extraction.

See, the extractor is only so big and you pretty much use a whole bottle of Vector butane per round. The amount of extractable material on fan leaves and the other materials in question are not available in large amounts. Thus, to get a good amount of real honey oil from fan leaves, IMO, you would have to run a huge amount through the extractor, thus expending a lot of money on butane.

Rather, use the Gumby method or make butter, or kief the fan leaves and stems. Use the primo trim for honey oil extraction if you want honey oil.

If you're feeling overwhelmed, why not just make hash? Honey oil requires ordering an extractor and the butane (or making an extractor, but Vector butane is a MUST). Keep it simple and I think you will be more satisfied.

Thank you jesse... I keep letting myself get overwhelmed. I just gotta keep it simple. Hash is good. I don't like honey oil all that much anyways. I'm not knocking any suggestions, but this is simple and cheap. Gumby it is. haha, no going back.

About the plants... I can tell they were pack full of nutrients becuase it's been 4 full days they have been on water, gravity, floranectar... and they barely have any deficiencies showing through. As you can see from the pics I just took everything is still pretty and green.

The white widow is not only gaining more trichs... it's also growing big. Amazing... I thought everything was done changing. Always surprising me.

The pics of the shadows, I put the light underneath the canopy and took two pics from above. The last pic has the Hindu Skunks on the left and White widow's on the right.

Getting close guys :bigjoint:

Making hash is really quite simple and I highly recommend you use your trim for that (but you would need hash bags since water extraction is best), another idea is to make a tincture with it, which would be the easiest thing to do. Once you have trimmed your buds, put all the leaf in a paper bag to dry. Once they are dried, you can rinse them out with water (this washes out the chlorophyll) and then put them in a bowl and cover it with a high alcohol liquor like vodka or whatever your pleasure is. The higher the alcohol content, the better and faster it will work. Let the leaf sit in there, covered for awhile, even a day or so, then strain out the leaf, run the booze through one more time and put in in a jar. You can let the alcohol evaporate out if you like. Depending on the concentration, you can use your tincture sub-lingually or as a beverage. You'll have to experiment to see how potent it is and be mindful that ingesting THC works slower but is longer lasting. This method is much easier than making hash or oil and you don't have extra equipment to buy. I highly recommend Jorge Cervantes Ultimate Grow box set for a great example of how to make ice hash strained through bags, you can probably find some of those segments on YouTube. His Bible is where this tincture recipe came from and it does cover hash making as well as cooking with cannabis.

As for your stems, you can actually use those as well. Collect them in a jar of rubbing alcohol, just store them there, adding all your stems to it and when a rainy day comes, you can take that and either pour (through a coffee filter to get the particles out) some on a glass surface or plate and allow the alcohol to evaporate and then scrape it off or you can use a double boiler method (put a glass bowl in a pan of water on the stove on low heat so that the water doesn't splash into your goo) until the liquid is gone. I find using 90% rubbing alcohol makes it gooier while using 50% leaves it more crystally and therefore easier to smoke. When it is gooey, it is a lot like resin you scrape out of your pipe and works great mixed with shisha in a hookah or on top of some weed like you might top off a bowl with hash.

Butter isn't hard to make either but I think the best experience I ever had with ingesting THC was when a friend make canna cream, which he then made into ice cream, which he made a smoothie for me out of. I felt good all day long in both body and mind!

I hope this helps.

Hope this helps.

My pleasure, but I share the same gender as those lovely ladies of yours! Haha! Glad to help. You can find info anywhere on how to make hash and such but I'd never heard of using the stems that way until about a year ago and I figured that would be useful info for you as well as all your faithful readers. Waste not, want not, right? One could probably make a tincture from the stems as well but I'd guess that it wouldn't taste as good.

And a giant thanks to you, Jig, for all the time and effort you have gone to take the rest of us on this journey with you. It has been most inspiring. There is rumor that legalization in AZ will go back on the ballot next year and if it passes, 12 plants would be legal. I am praying it goes through so that I can try a grow of my own!

Peace

birdlady... my mistake. It's nice having such wonderful company. I will be doing a dance for AZ to come to thier senses and get medical laws like us.

I'm very glad you liked the journey through my first grow. It is so much better to share the things you enjoy in life... and I've been so glad to share this with all of you, and have you all share it right back.

The only problem with the whole thing... I can't send everyone an email with a nug in it. I honestly would send most of my harvest out to you all if I wouldn't get in trouble for it.

Thanks again to you and all.
