DiY LED - Cree CXA3070

Nothing ground breaking here but just wanted to post my modest little build lol. I mounted the 1400ma driver direct to heatsink so as to take advantage of some extra fan cfms to help keep everything running cool. Fan is only running at 5 volts and keeps "supposedly hot running" jhx driver very cool imo. My infrared thermometer is at the studio so ill have to get back to everyone with temps.

how close do people put their cxb3070 light to the plants? I'm running mine at 16 inches over a plant. Is this a good height or are people going lower/higher?

I just run bare cobs.

Great thread, its inspired me to do my own build so I went ahead and ordered:

3 x HLG-185-C1400B
12 x CXB3070
12 x Arctic Alpine 11 Plus Heat sinks
12 x Ideal Holders 50-2234C
Kapton Tape with Artic Silver 5 Thermal Paste

Will acquire the wires from local hardware shop with some kind of hanging gear like others have done.

I'm thinking of 3 separate light bars with 4 cobs on each. What could I use to power the 4 fans on each bar?
What else will I need to purchase? Any help is greatly appreciated as I start this project.

Thanks.

I really like the mean well apv12-12 for powering fans. Usually $7 online. Also where are you sourcing the CXB? And what bin?
Thanks, I will look into apv. Will that apv power four fans or one for each?
The CXB are over at Mouser, I believe its the AB bin.

If you want nice soft silicon wire (cheap) then go to hobbyking.com and click on the US warehouse. Get 18AWG.

The fans use about .25amps of power (on the box it says this). I just went to a hardware store and bought a 2amp laptop converter that I can run on anything from 5v to 12v. If you run these near the max they get really hot so I normally leave a few extra amps so they don't burn out. Losing the fans would mean losing the lights. don't want that :)

Just had my first shipment arrive and guess what? I ordered the CXB3070 AB bins, I received the AD bins :)

I found 18AWG wire at home depot for 34cents a foot. Next up is the frame to hang things and I will start assembly.

Thanks again for this wealth of knowledge :)
From mouser? I better check mine! Hopefully AD instead too!

I hear good things about Kingbrite's service, avail, and pricing. Although getting someone on the phone, checking stock , and placing a special order is a minor hurtle, it is still a hurtle none the less. I would prefer to just visit a website from Merica , click buttons and have it arrive at my doorstep in a couple days.

Just today, I couldn't find a certain shop's hours anywhere online. I actually had to pick up the telephone and inquire to an actual human. Yuck!

Can I run a single CXA3070 with a 100W dimmable constant current driver (AC to DC30-36V 3000mA), if it were dimmed to say 25%-45% and NEVER exceeding 50%? I know the 3000mA is a killer, but if the driver is dimmed below 45% would that suffice? Also, then I would have some power in the driver if I ever wanted to upgrade.

Secondly, would I be able to run 2 CXA 3070 with the driver running full? I've read that the voltage has to be doubled or something if you want to connect 2 chips to the same driver? Is this accurate?

I've done hours of research but cant seem to put all the pieces together.

Thanks all!

Here is the setup I am planning on purchasing...could this be a badass setup for the low price of $120+-
