DIY with Quantum Boards

Kind of made for HID bulbs aren't they? Or are you just using it for the air cooling feature? I don't think you even need air cooling with the QBs. I suppose you could still use it if you wanted, just doesn't seem that appropriate. One LED out might not cause a problem current/voltage-wise but probably several would.

About the cracked LED. If it kills the whole board you could probably just solder jumpers on to bypass that LED. I guess they're probably designed in such a way that they still work when some are out. The company rep didn't actually tell us if that's the case or not. At least not right here, maybe somewhere else.

Yea they add heat for sure just not as much as hps. Currently have 12 boards 6 per raptor and need 12 more boards if all goes well. 4 hoods total.

Worked out pretty slick, just need to see the final outcome in a couple months.

I see. Not a bad idea actually, though a little costly unless you already had them. Not many people use a cooled hood for LEDs but it would certainly help get rid of any heat, keep it out of the grow space. That was some innovative thinking.

Got any pics? Interested to see how that looks.

Any pics of this setup?
Have you started testing them yet?
My thoughts on this is that it would greatly reduce A/C expense even with led and make running a sealed room very easy with even the smallest A/C unit

IIRC watts are watts and they add the same heat loads. BUT because half the wattage is used it should theoretically cut cooling loads in half. But the same 3.41 btuh per watt

Yep, that's how it works. With small heat loads more gets dissipated into the space, so the effective need for cooling usually drops by more than half.

Cut some L aluminum at 24 inches x 2.

Inserted these in between the Quantum heat sinks to hold them up.
Used gromted washers and am going to seal them with polyurethane.

Might add some reds in the middle heat sink later. Wrapped it in Orca film for now for reflectivity purposes. Orca is super thick tough material.

What is the total wattage 6 boards runs at?
