DIY with Quantum Boards

The 288 in its natural environment. I've been sick and haven't had the energy to wire them up despite my excitement. Hanging out under a 600w hps in a 3x3x6' and over vanilla kush on the left and tangilope on the right. I will be taking 30 or so cuttings from these two soon and once rooted, they will be planted in an organic no till soil bed in a much smaller 22"x46"x21"tall tv cabinet for an sog grow (possibly with some screen or lst assistance due to height. I'm excited to see how close I can get two of these things running at 2100 mah without issues. Super glad I was able to get in on this tech as it's probably the only way I'd make this space realistic and worth my time. Thanks robin and team for the innovation and I'll update you guys when I get these things up and running.

The updated site IS where it's at. All of the new board info, and you can choose driver based on how you wanna wire. I gotta do some wiring research. Series or Parallel? Ima leave you guys alone and ask YouTube

@Stephenj37826 & @robincnn will you be updating your site with the 304 S6 bin stats soon?
Will do

why is it important to run a driver at its full?
To maximize watt/$
Also drivers efficiency goes down if not 100% . It's in datasheet
I don't like maxing out drivers. 90% utilization is good . Keeps it cool and gives a margin
Have not heard anyone having issues running drivers 100% .... And in many cases over 100% too, specially with type A meanwell

Hey Robin,

I just sold a bunch of stuff to afford these board builds and the money is burning a hole in my pocket. Haha... When do you think the next round of boards will be ready? Also, can you recommend a dimmer for the HLG's? Thanks in advance.

Dang it! I have been waiting for this light over a month. I have had to start over from scratch since moving and getting into a fight with my old room mate. I left a grow tent, 600 watt hps, 600 watt mh, 4 Mars hydro 300s and a 4 light t5. Planning on doing outdoor this summer in a greenhouse. I currently have 15 plants two weeks old form seed in solo cups under a 300w roleadro 3000k light. So far the cheap light from amazon is working pretty well starting seeds. Will def need another light source in two-three weeks. I am hoping/praying that the quantum board is in stock in two weeks! I really don't want to buy another cheap light on amazon when i can buy a couple of these that i can use to flower plants inside this late fall/winter. I also have 3 seedlings in the ground outside in my backyard that have survived sub 32 degree nights for over a week now!

So if ran under 100 watts how much of a heatsink is actually needed @robincnn
Thinking of some alternate heatsink ideas in case I get can get my hands on four boards before the heatsinks are available
I've seen people use cookie sheets on YouTube for cobs and after seeing the 90 watt qb kit in action a simple sheet of aluminum doesn't seem as crazy now bc the slate1 heatsink doesn't weigh much at all
I know there is some heatsink calculator but doubt they'd help me
I want single heatsinks for each board does heatsink USA have any super thin heatsinks?

Boards should be here in 2 weeks.

No Confirm date on Heatsinks yet.
Slate 1 and 2 and new slate 3 Heatsinks should be here in next 2-4 weeks.

Not sure if I follow HLG ?
Meanwell HLG - I meant the driver. Maybe I am confused, but with other cob lights I've built, I've had to provide a potentiometer to lower the voltage to dim the light. The potentiometer I was using, I had to use a small screw driver to adjust the voltage. It sucked, but got the job done.

Yea i was wondering about alternative heatsinks as well. Looking at hsusa i saw that the 7.984 " wide extruded aluminum heatsink at 12" long was only $17 and was wondering if this would be a good fit to run boards at higher wattages like the slate 2. I also heard some people earlier in the thread running boards without a heatsink at 50 watts. Would that reduce board lifetime significantly or is running them around 50 watts not putting out much heat at all.

I have some 14" 7.984" HS's arriving tomorrow to try out but don't have the QB's yet.

100k LINEAR POT - available everywhere , i bought a 10 pack from FLEABAY fir like $11.

This will drop adjustment around 10% to Full .... And if you are CRAFTY and and have the right heatsink installed you can jumper in an On/Off switch to pot for " Open Connection " of driver dimmer wires and get MAX POWER.

However .... The QBs shine at about 50-60% power for top LM/Watt ... I am running at 50w per board on multi board rig to get 184Lm per Watt. @robincnn did all the calculations on output effeciency of boards at a given watt rating.

Some builders are are thinking that MAX POWER is the way to go .... Which is fine ( jeezus )

The linear pot dimmer can be bridged with resistor to further control " range "
I.e . ( 20% - 100% or 25% to 100% ) or whatever you want. There are also incremental " click " style pots available too.

BUT IS THE OPPOSITE .... Better performance thru multiple soft board
Maybe you should be running them at 24w per board if everyone that wants to run them hard is wrong.

I figured it was well know that paying for more equipment and running soft was more eff. Put 20 QB in that 4x4 since its the best way.
