Question about remote mounting drivers.

I want to move my drivers outside of my closet. How far can the drivers be from the boards without affecting efficiency? I got some 18AWG jacketed strand wire so hopefully is good enough for a longer run.

I can mount them on the wall right outside the closet if needed, but would be nicer if I could have on other side of the bedroom so I can conceal them a little better. So 4ft vs 18ft.

18 ga stranded wide is roughly .007 ohms/ft. 36 ft of wire at .007 ohms/ft = .252 ohms.
If you set a constant current driver to 2100ma, that 18 ft extension will cause the driver to output a slightly higher voltage to compensate for the 1.11 watts lost to the extension. (2.1² amps x .252 ohms = 1.11132 watts )

Thanks for the explanation. Mine are hlg 240H c1050 if that makes a difference. So basically the driver will take care of the current loss so that my boards wind up with the same voltage they get now?

Correct. The driver works just a little harder, but the lights get the same current, so there is no decrease in light output. This is true of CC drivers. With CV drivers you would have to manually adjust driver to compensate.

We already know the 18 ft extension is .252 ohms. To figure out how much wattage is consumed in that extension, we simply square the current (1050 ma) and multiply the result by the resistance (.252 ohms).
1.05² x .252 = .27783 watts. Which, incidentally, is exactly ¼ the wattage used by the 2100 ma driver.

I think you mis worded this .22783 watts is slightly more than a 1/4 watt and is 0.0012 percent of 240 watt total. the loss is insignificant.

OK, I got a steal of a 1 meter 12" wide heatsink. I bought a new 480h-2100b driver and just need QB boards. Rspec, V1, or V2? My other light is 4 x V1 @ 3500K so if these four are different then I will stagger them across two lights.

It came with that for a driver?? where did you buy it? What V are the boards? what is the milliamps is that? What V? if it will actually drive them looks like you'd have to cut the DC plug off and would need some 20 gauge wire to connect them together. Those are the ir boards?

All my stoned ass had to do was unwrap the wires. The raw wires was extra actually & the connection wire was right under there.
No drivers for the QB-3's yet. That's what got me all confused. Lol!

Took a min but all done.
Example of MW Drivers tackling past their duty. Didn't realize this it could go this high till now. Lol! Where it shows 802w, thats just the x2 320w MW'S powering the QB's. Prob the first pic that looks brighter. Supplementals are separately plugged in.
The 2nd pic @ 502w is the entire unit on the watt-o-meter. That's 355 on the boards & the rest supplemental.
Pretty cool stuff ay.

You're telling me you got 401watts out of 2 HLG-320's each?
