This is your first statement, then you tell him "If he uses chemical nutes" to do it every 2-3 weeks.
Then, you tell him "If he wants to", to get organic ferts and apply once or twice before harvest.
Then, you bash Monsanto, and copy/ paste from an article bashing them, like they are the ONLY company in history to pollute creeks or rivers.
The OP didn't ask for a history lesson singling out one company, he asked a simple question whether or not we thought he could get away without feeding his plants.
I realize you DID say MG makes good soil, aside from the gnats, but I have used numerous bags of MG over the past 3 years, and NEVER had a problem with any bugs, even after leaving an open bag sitting in the garage for months.
Somebody in another thread recently also believes that any bugs that may be found in the MG could be from how, and length of time they are stored at the local distributors.
why are you bashing me so hard? i laid out all the options for him, and i too have a very old bag of scotts premium potting soil. it was a great bag of potting soil! minimal nutes .07 - .01 - .03 and it came with peat moss and perlite. i also had an old terrible bag of hyponex (same company), which turned into mud when i used it.
i dont use any feed. i compost once before sowing and once again going into flower with an all purpose compost.
you can use organic feed.
or you can use chemical feed. this route (youll have the most problems with. when the minerals and salts finally do buildup, which will be close to flower, your the plant will die off, and people will always wonder why)
for my first plant i actually used chemical feed, and it made my plant glow unnaturally like it was radioactive or something. this picture is mine when i was learning how to grow, and the plant died becuase of terrible conditions. it was getting fed chemicals, it was getting watered too much, it went through hurricane sandy with no power for a week, and then i put it in a small closet with no ventilation and the temperature reached ~100f
its his choice. if you read my message again, i said that almost all companies dump into mother earth, but when your main profit is pesticide, you need to be very careful about it, and they are the opposite of that.

Liming the soil is a great idea. Your runoff is so acidic, I'd do that sooner and not later.Sorry to come on your post asking for help but im a newbie between a rock and a hard place. Im about 4 weeks from seed, im growing in ffof with 25% added perlite im watering with 6.5 ph tap water and my runoff is coming out at 5.0. The only reason I complaining is because I have some type of deficiency or slight nute burn do to me adding a half of tsp of the General Hydroponics Flora Nova Grow nutes (7-4-10). Im growing in a 3x3 tent with a 400w mh reflector hood my temps stay between 72-75 degrees and humidity between 45%-65%. I don't know what the issue is so any help would be appreciated. By the way the strain is white widow/big bud from attitude. Pic are below. I also heard lime will buffer my ph but idk.

Imo your symptoms are a combo of lockout from the pH issue ... and overfeed. FFOF is fairly "hot" for N.
If you lime and discontinue supplemental feeding, you should see improvement. cn

I'm not bashing you 'so hard', I'm just confused, as I think the OP might be, with your conflicting views, first saying they have good soil, then saying they pollute.
Then, telling him he has enough nutes, but if he's going to do this, to do it this way, or if he does that, to do it that way.
It obviously sounds like this is not your first rodeo, but you have to remember when giving advice to newbs, sometimes simpler is better.
We don't know if they have ever tried growing ANYTHING before.

im sorry, youre 100% right. since the op has used a soil full of nutrients, i would suggest only adding composted manure once (1-1-1) and then letting the plant do its thing.
water the correct way, wait until the soil is dried out. cannabis grows vigoiously in drier soil, especially during flower unlike tomatos basil etc.
miracle grow does a few gems in their product lines (expand and grow organic is coco, scotts premium potting soil, miracle grow organic potting soil) but i dont use them anymore becuase of how badly they damage our earth (they are a huge company) and how little they try to clean up and/or stop destroying it, despite the many claims made against them.

after all this once again i am still no certain what i am going to do...but i am going to get a good soil..and MAYBE use MG ultra bloom at most

IDK if I mentioned it earlier, but I am in MG moisture control, with MG perlite, and am feeding with some 0-15-11 right now, and my plant loves it, only adding a shot of MG all purpose nutes when I see signs of N lacking.
All this I had around the house already, and it also did fine my last grow.

I did 40/60 Perlite/soil in mine, not even noticing until after that the Perlite even has nutes in it.
But everything's coming along great.

Happy Frog Ocean Forest soil. This soil has enough nutrients to feed your seedlings for 3-4 weeks. Get some dried blood and sum triple phosphate. Feed her the dried blood once a month. When she goes to flower add some triple phosphate and just a little dried blood. Do that ever month, until she's done. I hate mixing nutrients everytime I go to water. I've spent about $1000 in nutrient lines. I get as good results with the dried blood and triple phosphates as I did with expensive nutrients.

Be ez with the Mg man it can give you problems when you start adding nutes to it there are time released ferts in Mg and can confuse shit for a new grower you would be better off buying a bail of sunshine or pro mix somthing more neutral so when you do add nutes you will have a buffer and you wont have bugs flying around the room when you u open the bag of mg lol MG does suck but if its what you got to work with well..... work with it pro mix is about the same as MG try looking into it much love

They are good at what they do but are not crop specific
You need to adjust depending on what you are growing.
Seedlings placed in any soil pretty much don't need any feed for the first month unless it's a real light mix.
I personally have grown with the mg soil that you add water to and it expands with good results,it was very airy and lightweight, ideal
Common sense is all that's needed.
Remember no young plants require drastic measures of anything and is often people's downfall.

thats the coco fibers im talking about. it was a good soil. the company is a profit whore though. they are profit>life.
there are a lot of other good soils out there, with more wood chips and organic matter and less chemicals for the same price. shop around

I think when I get the 1.5 cu. ft. bags, it's like 5 or 6 bucks.

Gradually increase container size. Move to slightly larger next, no more than 1 gallon. Then 3 gallon. Do NOT put directly into your final container. Do like I outlined and thank Big Steve who made me a believer in doing this on indoor grows. Root ball development is faster, with better results doing this method.

I don't use mg anymore I'm talking about when I started out
I use plant magic coco. I will never use anything else.
I also have no need for lumps of wood or anything else
I add my own feed , the vitalink range and my medium is light , cut with perlite and hydroleca.

But useless to the plants. Wood contains very low levels of ionic nutrient, and the fungi that break it down work slowly and tend to sour the soil. cn
