Do you count flowering from 12/12 switch or when you see pistil hairs?

It’s seems everyone has there own opinion and everyone is a Jedi! Nobody is wrong! Can we agree that nobody cuts down there crop on date alone! If you do then it matters on when you start the count. But if your reading your plants like any real grower should, then your watching other things than just the calendar!

I chop my shit down on a certain date. :-)That’s because I know how long the strains I grow take to finish. When I’m messing around with new cuts or pheno hunting from seed, i keep track of the day I flipped so I can look back and see how many days they needed to finish flowering so I’ll know if I grow them again.
it’s the only way to keep a consistent cycle. My bloom room has 3 different cycles going. I get fucking pissed if there’s empty trays.

Oh yeah, and flowering begins when you flip the lights ;-)
Never have I met another grower who thinks it’s not.

has anyone here taken cuts off a plant a few days into 12/12? Or put a plant back in veg from after being under 12/12 for a few days? I’ve had re-veg growth from doing that. That tells me they were already flowering.

Really? I've heard that it takes 1 week for the plant to enter "flower mode" after the switch

I would say this is highly subjectical and also to certain degree strain dependent.

For me preflower and flowering are to separate things. It's way easier to put forward and help newcomers out if you explain both terms as separate like initial stretch etc. It also help newcomers from not harvesting way to early.

That being said, a plant is only done when it's ripe. It doesn't really matter from when you count first day of flower. Cheers!

Yeah, try it out. Take a plant that’s been under 12/12 for a few days and throw back into veg.
i haven’t done it in a few years, but have done it a few times over the years. Some re-veg growth happens.

Looking back over the years, old growers can see how their habits have formed...most by trial and error...
Old stoners have tried every angle plus some for their own trail through the maze......
As I grow autos and photos alongside each, and have for years, I've got a 3 week cycle of each stage. I veg everything 3 weeks 24/0 ....move to 12/12 bloom tent...every 3 weeks, there's fruit to pic

I would but I only grow autos, so I wouldn't know lol

So you turn the lights out outside and start the countdown of flower then?

gotcha

If you're referring to guidelines saying it should take x amount of weeks in flower then for indoor grows it is when you switch to 12/12. This is the standard.

Don't get wrapped up in weeks. They mean absolutely nothing.

I always for past several years count furst week of 12/12 as transition...so technically every plant ive ever grown i started counting flowering 7 days after 12/12 flip..it never fails an plants always finish very close to the time expected by breeder/strain..

No plant on earth automatic instantly switches to flowering the second you flip to 12/12 it takes 5-7 days to transition from veg into flowering..its a hormonal an physiological change it takes time its nkt instant..5-7 days after 12/12flip is wen flowering actually starts so 7 days is safe for any strain..

I was wondering how do you count the flowering days.

Do you count from 12/12 switch from 18/6

Or

Do you start counting flowering days when you first see pistils?

I always have started counting the flowering period from when I see the first pistils, however I recently have seen a few people counting flowering period from when they switch from 18/6 to 12/12.

see I figured if I switch from 18/6 to 12/12 then it takes a further 10 days for the plant to show sex and I counted them days as the flowering period, that means I could harvest 10 days early as I counted them 10 days as flowering perid, just when the plant will put its weight on in the last 2 weeks.

I hope that makes sense.

Please Feel free to contribute to the thread & leave comments.

Peace

It's obvious from number of flowering days on the seedbank descriptions that the breeders and seedbanks start the count 2 weeks after the flip.

Hi nice to meet you. I’m a long term grower with 1k+ plants under my belt, and plants do not instantly begin to flower when the lights are flipped. I have definitely taken clones from plants that were in my bloom room for 5-7 days with totally normal results, and I’ve also pulled plants out and put them back into veg with out any ill results.

As a matter of fact I’ve watched healthy clones that I’ve ran for years that normally would take 6-7 days to begin flowering take 3 weeks because of a cold snap in the weather. I fixed the cold room and the plants continued on like normal and finished flowering beautifully.

Who said instantly? I stand by my few days comment though. Lets say 4 days for clarification lol. Had it happen a few times. Been doing this for a while too.

i’ve read articles over the years backing up what i’m saying. Only a couple 12hr dark periods really kick starts the hormones.

as far as when flowering begins, i stand by what many of us have always defined it as. When we flip the lights to 12/12.
I wouldn’t think the stretch phase is anything other than part of the flowering phase. :-)
