sorry i dont understand this can u clear it up for me thanx:blsmoke:
I think he's asking what states have mandatory minimum sentences and how long and for what.

In most trials in the USA a judge decides your approprate punishment and can give a sentence appropriate to the person and crime.

In drug cases and a few other instances there are mandatory minimum sentences which take away the judges discretion and force a minimum punishment no matter what.

Like say an old lady is busted with a few plants she grows for her glaucoma...
If there's a mandatory minimum in that state for say cultivation the judge has no choice but to send grandma to prison for that amount of time even though any sane person knows grandma poses no threat to the community and doesn't deserve any punishment.

I don't know if we have any here.

i once got busted in the biggest snob town around after taking 8 xanax and blacking out and hitting a tree.. got ten tix for one bad nite.. i got charged with possesion of marijuana for the huge sum of .08 grams.. i shit you not.. my boy and i just smoked this small roach we found and i think it was like a corner of it left.. also got charged with posesion of cds for an empty baggy of white... they called it trace amounts.. so little that they couldn't even weigh the shit.. unfing , believable... but i guess when the have a zero tolerance, zero means zero... and they were just out to bust my balls and shit, which they did nicely.. i could've lost my liscence for four years, but ended up losing it for only one.. in my state you also lose your liscence for a year for ANY drug offense.. which i sooo don't get as you could just be walking down the street with no car involved at all.. this state sucks soo bad..

Money, politics, and fear that's the reason. Money because a bunch of different people make a lot of money screwing others this way from drug testing centers to lawyers to courts to dmv to treatment centers to insurance companies and probably more. Politics because it wins political races to be tough on crime and to have a history of supporting legislation that's also tough on crime. "Tough guy" after "tough guy" things just get worse and worse that's really the only way it can go until people have finally had enough. Fear, people can be made to fear anything and fear is also one of the strongest political tools.

Or the short answer is because we allow it to happen. Soon we'll see chain gangs come back and you'll end up as a slave laborer for years just for simple posession. Didn't Arizona just try chain gangs and stop that again just recently?

Politically your forgetting the thousands of lobbyists who work for the timber industry, oil industry, or cotton industry. They don't want hemp legalized, therefore they can't have marijuana legalized. Plus the alcohol companies don't want it legalized either. I'm sure it's perceived that it will be cutting into their profits as well I'm sure.
Plus all those fancy vacations that they give to politicians. A two week stay in Maui for a simple no vote on something he probably really doesn't care that much about anyways... hmmm.

Hole- You better know, otherwise Mr. Popo will be very glad you didn't realize an ounce weighs 29 grams (don't forget that cops include packaging weight, even though your supplier does not), but the law allows only 20 grams.

Lawmakers on the dark side can be devious, can't they?

yes they can. But there's only so long you can ignore the public before their replaced in office. I'm sure that's starting to weigh in on quite a few politicians. Especially in areas and districts where the majority of voters are pro legalization. If they want it and their representative doesn't. They find a new Rep.

wyteboy - ever buy and carry an ounce of something?

Did you do it because you didn't know the rules, or were you just on a self-destruct mission?

What if your supplier of that ounce was nice enough to break it down to 18 grams.

Felonies suck.

Please do your part to reduce roadkill.

johnny breed and oregon meds.. both excellent posts.. very very true.. i was also just watching the show on discovery channel about arizona having chain gangs in there county jail... on the show they said that 80% of the people that were in this jail were there for drug offenses..now, they didn't break it down drug by drug or any kinds of weights and all, but i for one was appauled... fucking being on a chain gang because i enjoy smoking pot? this country is not going forwards, but rather backwards in many aspects... it really is scary... but i just don't know what we, the smoking community, can do to make things better? but i know that i will be staying the fuck out of arizona for sure...

I believe we are all waiting for someone to step up to the plate and tell us what the rules are on how we sign a petition so every person can have a plant.

Some long-haired freaky person in the back mentioned the words "Ballot Initiative"

I wish I knew 20 people who shared my views.

edit: Its a bummer when you pay with your life because you are not concerned with the rules.
