....You're an 18 year old kid who (for reasons I won't mention here) is out of high school and (for the same reason) has a badly hurt arm which keeps me from getting a "real job". What would you do with all of the extra time you finally have? I decided to start growing. Here it is....

First off: Welcome to my first grow, all of my equipment was found around the house (minus 1 flouro base-8$, 2 bulbs-8$, Soil-75$, and pots-20$, nutrients-40$) so everything is a little ghetto rigged. So now I'll get on to the plants.

THE ROOM

From left to right: my bed, the flowering 'box', the closet-veg area.

VEG CLOSET
These are the smaller plants in the closet.

FLOWERING BOX.
This is the box closed up, believe it or not, no light escapes.

Open box/my plants.

THE BEST TWO PLANTS

This bottom one has been my favorite since i knew her. The stalk is like at least twice as thick as any of the others.

There are 6 in the veg box, and this is only the second day of flowering so hopefully not all of them are males. If this best one is a female (please god) I am for sure putting it back in veg to collect clones.

So that's the farm. I hope you guys like it, i would really appreciate any advice, comments that you have. I'll hopefully have pictures of some really nice buds for you soon.

I can add more if anyone wants to know. And I'm sure I'll be adding more just because i know i forgot something...So this ends the journal for now. thanks for reading the whole thing if you're here. (and if you skipped down, shame on you.)

Now that's a grow on a budget! Looks like you have all the basics and the plants look good but stretched. Hate to tell ya, but you are going to need more light to get decent buds.

good luck

Thanks a lot for the advice, I wasn't sure if the flouros could support the budding process... Could i sex the plants and revert back to veg, to save the space and wait until I can afford HID system? Is this my best option or could you recommend anything else?

Damn I thought I was ghetto, you've got me beat:mrgreen: pretty nifty, yeah you can revert them back into veg but they say it will take way longer to flower, in other words you may have to veg a long time, also why not use the flos for side lighting and throw some cfls over them plants until you can get the hid...

Your plants look pretty damn good considering, good luck to you and your grow...

Okay, not everyone can talk about how ghetto my set-up is, you're going to make me feel bad. And why are CFLs any better than my tube setup?

yeah you need some stronger lights for flowering. you can just take a couple clones off each plant, root them and then put them into flower time and see the sex of them then. by then the plants will be a lot bigger and have more clones to be ripped. only take the females obviously. but youre doing well with what ya got. not doing too much wrong ill tell ya that.

I started out with flos, your closet kinda reminds me of mine when I first started, check out my journal when you get the chance,, I learned of the cfl, switched and the rest is history, cfls are better than flos .. that's my opinion....

So how many of these do i need a plant? Can you get these at the hardware store?

I would say at least 20 -40 watt per plant during veg and add more come flower, gives you plenty of time to gather monies, you can get cfls just about anywhere however bigger chains will be cheaper such as walmart, lowes etc.. I get 26w bulbs for 99cent a piece... do you have a costcos or sams place near you, that would probably be the cheapest best bet..

I checked out your grow journal and saw how you had all of the split fixtures there. Is there a certain specification i should look for in the light bulb, i am seriously considering the switch...Hey your buds look great by the way, very nice!

Thanks crdbrd, I used soft white through veg and flower because I'm a Noob! and didn't know any better at the time, so I decided to veg and flower using them, seems to be doing the trick... however they say to use the daylight bulbs for veg and the soft white or a mixture for flower....

So i have just the 6 plants in flower right now, could you estimate the number of bulbs i should aim for? Should i start using CFLs for my vegging plants too, to prevent stretching?

Alright, I made a trip to the hardware store and bought 3 40 w soft white CFL bulbs and some sockets and wire... Because i needed one more ghetto rigged piece of equipment, i decided to same the money and do the wiring myself. I assume soon i'll get shocked and spend money on some pre made shit that costs alot more. can anyone suggest any way to easily place many bulbs around the plants without any real structures to hang things from except the ceiling....?

Aim for as many as you can get your hands on, but for now try to get at least three more of them 40watters, one for each plant and you could run a line, rope or wires to hang your light fixtures, specially if you get them clamp lights, there are lot's of ways to hang fixtures, just sit back spark up that bowl, bong or joint and think about it for a minute, I'm sure you'll come up with something that will suite your needs... for the most lighting try using y splitters...

PS: More light the better, also cfls will not prevent your plants from stretching no more or less than the standard fluorescents, it depends on how close or far you keep them, remember you are able to place your plants closer under the fluorescents however the cfls will have a faster growth rate..... this is from my experience thus far....

Thanks for the tip dude. I can already see the increase in growth. I already managed to burn the shit out of a fan leaf. But they are definitely happier with all this new light. I'll keep you guys posted. :peace::joint:

Everything has been pretty intuitive now but i can't figure out which sex my plants are... The best plant is a female i'm pretty sure. There are things that look like the "balls" that everyone has talked about on almost all of the plants but they seem to be taking shape into buds... Do the male plants also have something that looks like buds? i'll post some photos too.
