Gorgeous Satori plants! you have no idea how jealous I am!

I'm glad I found this grow journal, I have learned a lot, thanks J

I was thinking, why dont you cut a hole in the top of your grow box and put the light on top, instead of inside. That'd give you about another 6" of vertical growth or so? I love your C02 setup and I'm glad you got descriptive about it, when I flower, I'm going to emulate your setup.

:peace:

Thanks for the props Yak. Believe me, I wanted to be able to raise the height, but the framing of my box has cross bars that support the reflector and ballast. This is the Sun System 2, which is quiet heavy as the ballast is contained in the reflector, so I need the support. Plus, my exhaust fan is mounted into the roof of the box, so it's just too much to deal with. Anyway, the vertical growth stopped about 10 days ago, so I'm dealing with it for now. Hit me up with any questions about your grow, I'd be glad to give insight.

In the meantime, check this out. Two of my leaves actually have calyxs with hairs growing out of their inner nodes. Kinda crazy. I've read about it, but never seen it personally. Maybe it's more common than I know, but thought I'd share.

jcommerce what size net pots did you use Im building the same setup now and was just wondering. Did you put a water level tube through the side of the bin and if so what fittings did you use. Also do you fill the water up to the bottom of the nets or a little below the nets. Sorry for all the questions.

Splifman - Thanks Bro!

Smitty - They are 5" net pots and I do not have a water level tube on the side. Would have been nice, but has not been too much of a problem to just lift the lid to check levels, drain, and fill. I try to keep my water level about 1" below the bottom of the net pots. I started with a drip system for seedlings until the roots reached the water level. If you don't have dripability, just keep the water level at the level of your jiffy cube or other sprouting medium and lower it as the roots grow down. Another key is to have a strong air pump and use the fizz style airstones. The more bubbles, the more mist, which will keep your hydroton moist throughout the seedling stage. Good luck!

j how often did yo empty and fill your Res anf why? Also when the water level lowers from evaporation only the H2O evaporates the nutrient levels inturn rise as water evaporates so when topping off did you jst add fresh water until your nutrients ppm was too low and then empty and refill youre res?

Good questions Smitty. Part of my daily routine is to check the water level, PPM level, and PH. You are right in that evaporation can exceed nutrient uptake and inversely affect the PPM levels. For the entire vegetative stage and for about 3 weeks into the flowering stage, the plants were uptaking almost equal parts of nutrients and water. Therefore, I would refill with full nutrient solution and the PPM levels would remain the same. However, over the last few weeks, the water intake has been much greater than the nutrient uptake. So each time I check the PPMs, after the reservoir level has gone down, the PPMs ratio has gone up. I then only refill with PH adjusted R/O water until I obtain my desired PPM levels.

Every other week I fully drain each reservoir and refill with pure R/O water with Clearex solution, which I run for 1 hour. The Clearex leaches out the salt deposits in the reservoir, roots, and the plant itself. I then drain the Clearex water and replace with new, fresh nutrient solution.

Also, I believe that over the course of two weeks, the plants take up certain needed elements in the nutrient solution while leaving others behind. Therefore, the balance of overall elements gets out of whack. By starting fresh every 2 weeks, I know I'm getting a balanced supply of elements in the new nutrient mix.

Clear as mud??

I slowly ramped up over the course of the grow. Max during Veg was in the 600 - 700 PPM range. I have been in the 1000 - 1200 PPM range for flowering. The ppm's have gone higher than 1200 on a few occasions (1300s) when the plants have sucked up a ton of water very quickly before I've had a chance to check on them. For this reason, I have dropped levels to about 900, and the next day, with the res level lower, the ppms are back in the 1100 range.

I use Botanicare Nutes: Pro Grow / Pro Bloom / Liquid Karma / Cal Mag / Sweet / Hydroguard / Clearex

Nope, but they have a long running history as being one of the best. I just like the idea of organics better than synthetics. Supposedly the taste is better with organics.

whats happening J?
I got a question for you
how much hydrogaurd do you put in per gallon?

I like the setup, brother. I would have to agree about the Botanicare nutes... especially the sweet. That stuff rocks! I use it in soil too. I did a side by side comparison of Ionic and Pure Blend Pro in Ebb and Flow tables (maui wowie) and there was no comparison in taste... the Pure Blend kicked Ionic's butt! The Ionic buds were a little bigger tho. . .

I'm getting ready to build some bubblers too... I will be sure to post my thread of the grow here with pics so we can go back and forth...

Peace

Is it ok to mix different companies nutes? Like is it ok to use clearex with GH Pro? And what is sweet and who makes it? Sorry for al the questions I just want to do it right the first time.

Heruk - I've been putting in 10 ml per gallon. I've been putting in about 70 - 80% recommended strength of everything else, but I put in 100% strength Hydroguard. Don't want any nasties popping up in my roots, especially late in the grow.

Newmindica - Thanks for the props. Yeah, I care more about taste than getting a few extra grams here and there. Happy to hear Botanicare gives good tasting results. I'll be verifying in early Feb. I hope!

Smitty - Ask away bro! I wouldn't mix nutes from different companies. Clearex is the exception because you actually use it alone, with fresh water (i.e. you don't mix it with nutes anyway) I've read a lot of people that use other brands but do their flushes with Clearex and it's worked well for them.
