DWC Root Slime Cure aka How to Breed Beneficial Microbes

I've been doing a version of this for my veggie garden for the last year or so. Hadn't thought about using it in hydroponics.
My plants are much bigger after using compost/manure tea. I add a few other things to mine and use it as a foliar spray as well. Thanks for starting this thread Heis!

Oh, I have been wondering about the pH dropping. I'd always seen a rise before the Bens.

I'll check that site, thanks.

If that says what I think, it means that I am alway fungi dominate, but not lacking the foaming bacillus....or maybe I'm not making it?

Well, the roots tell the story, I'll say.
Well, the foam component was well housed on the pump bag, dark green brown scum. So, that's the difference I guess.

It was just was not floating on the water.

I've read a lot but not the whole thing so I'm gonna cheat and ask a question.. I'm gonna start using tea.. I have a ebb n flow 5 gallon buckets with air stones in every bucket and always keeps around 3 gallons per bucket.. 55 gallon Rez. So initially I fill 55 gallon rez and add 55 cups of tea.. Then I flood sytem and then drain.. I probably got 25 gallons in rez upon draining.. I then top off rez with more water add more nutes.. How much tea do I add to the rez after topping off? Half the water already will have tea in it... Thanks in advance for answers..

Is this the right stuff?
Yep. That's the original recipe, I'll still use it. I think Heis has change the zho with mygogrow, someone will point you to where the current recipe is...

This is the shit Z7 Hydro System Cleanser by Flying Skull Plant Products. I've been using it and it works great you'll be amazed no slime or nutrient salt build up and it is a PH stabilizer. Here's the link for more info http://flyingskull.net/proddetail.php?prod=Z7 I'm too lazy to write what it all does and it's super concentrated. A 16 oz 2 part can treat 946 gallons of water, no need for RO water.

I bumped Heis's condensed version a page or back. I believe he said mycogrow can be used with AF, and then don't need the Aquashield or the ZHO. I'll probably change to that, after then current materials are gone.

I am going to give this a shot for sure. I have had scale-bustin' yields for years and now I caught this...tried P20 and SM90, they work, but not for very long.
I gotta tell ya, after months of this, I am ready to drop hydroponics.

Since you are introducing a constant flow of live Bens and not feeding them, they die and just produce more fertilizer in the water. OK.
But we want root heath. So we feed a batch, add that and feed another. So without trying to understand where 1/'2 of your water went in flood and drain, I'll say the task for me is the constant production and introduction. It doesn't really matter how much.

It matter if you have a lava housing or some place for the Bens to live, or they will live on your airstones. That's OK. They will move to the root crowns when those are available. So, a lot of variables to ask if 55 cups is enough and do you need to add another 20 cups or something.

Getting the root in the water and living is the process. I'm, at first, inoculating the root cubes, and use the lava rocks that I sweetened up with a little molasses, so they don't glom on the airstones so much. So, if your roots are good, you have enough. But, you almost can't have too many because they don't live but for a few days. While they live they also produce auxins, growth regulators, these particular auxins are root stimulants. So, they are at once, creating a consortium (it's called) of Bens that, as an ecosystem, is not conducive to the slime and also stimulate root growth.

For me the task is to figure a way to have a constant supply. So, by constant, I mean twice a week I add half of what I brew that week.

So, how will you do something like that for 55 gals?

I think farmers never stop learning and I come from a family of farmers and they all agree. :)

Wow. Years with no problems. I've had two years with all problems. :) But, they say, hydro is not easy, but very rewarding. So far, my rig is like a gold dredge. It's suppose to work, if I can get it working. I went though the H2O2, and SM90, but then I read the H2O2 kills off all the consortia and makes a perfect home for slime.

So, I am full into getting roots, and only this tea has gotten me to the point where I am in the first production on my hydro rig. And I still had a few falter.

I think I pulled the rooting hormone support too soon. Live and learn. I like this technique because we are concentrating the store bought stuff and saving money and saving roots.

I drain to waste about every 3 days. They are big plants. Heavy eaters. Would I still give the tea just once a week to prevent?

If your drain to waste then add the tea with every feeding!

on a side note about zho.. If you skip adding the zho and
just use aquashield, mollasiss, mycogrow and ewc your tea
will be much cleaner! And less buildup on your airstones
and its just as effective

Well, you are draining out the Bens and they die off in about 48 hrs anyway, so what is wrong with adding tea each res change? I add tea twice and change water once a week. You could do that. Brew, add 1/2 the tea, change and add the other half and begin brewing for the next res change.

I think Great White has the line on variety of bennies and myco and it is affordable relatively...sorry to butt in, but it came in handy when times were tight.

Well using the tea every 3 days can get expensive. I brew 4 gallons and would go through it every 3 days then. Maybe Its time to find something cheaper than subculture M and subculture B.
