DWC Scrog Throwdown Growdown 2011

So anyone have input on starting flower with mh during the stretch or just do hps? Would mh promote more veg growth during the stretch? I may have asked this already a while ago.

I don't know the statistics on it, but me personally I'd use the HPS and do a longer veg with the MH.

You'll find lots of differing opinions on this one. Personally, when I switch to 12/12, the first week I'll use MH. This does many things, among them: promote additional vegetative growth, and helps keep internode length shorter, imo. You can use MH the entire grow and you'll see little difference. Here's why...

To answer your question, scientifically speaking, there are a few things you can do to help keep the stretch down. The first, and most important thing is to make sure you have sufficient light for your area. Eliminating that factor, it is not the MH or HPS spectrum, per se, that causes a plant to stretch. It is a natural response as a result of flowering hormones that it is time to compete for passing pollen (cannabis, like corn, is anemophilous). To be successful, the plant grows taller and branches so the flowers have a better chance of reproducing. So, I would assert, that neither MH or HPS would significantly impact the stretch. More important would be light penetration (whether MH, HPS, LED, CMH, flouro, or plasma), plant density, and distance from the canopy.

Hope this helps and happy growing!

before I got my new setup I use a 175w MH for flowering.....worked out very nicely. Seems like using it for the stretch might work a little?

You can use a mh or hps the whole time but mh for veg and hps for flower is best. Blue I would go with a longer veg, but I'm uunder a time limit, so 6 week veg and I hope for a 8 week finish.

I think I have about 3 weeks to go on this mendo purp clone.

I'm hoping she puts on some more weight in the next few weeks.

Hard to tell how good or bad since its my first time, but I think it looks pretty good, starting to smell pretty nice too!

I also just picked up my magnifier :)

I'm also wondering if I should have thinned out the fan leaves to let more light hit the lower buds?

Is it too late to do it now??

I'd just let her be....she's only got a couple of weeks left anyway, if you do take any off, do it slowly...a few at a time.

dwcnoob, If you want to get rid of some leaves go ahead but like Phychild said do a few at a time otherwise you could shock the lady. The leaves are what turns the lamps energy into buds though, so keep that in mind when pruning. A lot of growers will do this towards the end anyways to save time at harvest. Keep them for hash or butter cause those leaves are frosty.

It's not too late. I selectively trim off my fan leaves.
Meaning if I can't tuck it out of the way then I cut it off if it is blocking light from the lower budz.
I always tuck leaves away until they yellow off or just get in the way.

I notice when I do this that when the bud gets the extra light penetration that it swells up and also ripens a little quicker. I do it to pack on size to my budz and to also help ripen them up.
I do not suggest to go thru there and cut everything off except the budz.
As you cut the sugary leaves off, put them in a bag or something and let them dry out then make some butter or whatever you wanna make.
Everyone has their own method and preference and some may not agree but I know what has worked for me.
And they grow back stronger after being stressed lightly whether it's bending or cutting them.

Day 31..... I somehow broke a root, I tried to get as much of it out of the root ball as I could but endend up stripping 1 tap root (pictured), is this going to hurt me and my lady? Is the left over root in the ball going to rot since it's dead now? Other pics are side shoots.

I think he already cut that down. I saw some pictures a few weeks ago of some stuff drying. I can't find it at the moment. All his grows are super clean and make me drool.

As for my lady....she was unaffected by losing some roots. Moved the large leaves out of the way so the shoots get more light (thanks for the tip Blu).

I got the screen installed at 7 inches from the rez lids.
Yes only 7 inches so hold on to your britches
. There is a method to the madness.

The screen is 4x3 and I am hoping to have it covered with 7-12 inch budz! Hopefully!
I am really enjoying these cooler temps. It is alot easier to have the light right on top of the plants and still maintain cooler temps. Maybe I can persuade them into purpling up during the flower.
I didn't install the auto feeder valves but I should be ok topping by hand as long as I don't leave for a week.

I have my own screen low. I give you credit for mine being so low. And I second the low temps. Great. I do wonder what my temps get when the light is off, especially with the water, I should check that out.
