i got my electricity bill and its 48 percent higher than our neighbors with the same sized house, im runnin 1 600 watt digital balast and a small fan to keep the air circulated. i was just wondering because i hear people get caugth with high electricity bills, so my question is should i be worried? they sent a graph of how much electricity we use a month and its crazy, january, we barley used any but some other months arent so bad but some are crazy high, so is this enough evidence for a warrant? im a little freaked. also we used 100 percent more this year than last, and i only got the light in feb, maybe jan and the light schedule is 18/6, however for the first week it was on 24/0 cause i didnt have a timer

The power co. here does those little reports too. I think they are BS. I have been x% higher than neighbors before and my neighbors have higher or equal bills. I personally think its just the power company trying to look like they actually give a crap.

That is actually a hair on the low side.

I hear people complain about getting raped at $0.18 or even $0.36/kwh and I just shake my head.
54 cents per kwh is low? I was messing with you, looks like the rate in most places in Cali are around $.25, so you would only do $90 at that rate.

There is no way a 600 watt could increase your bill that much. Check into some stuff.

I run 800 watts, + either a window AC unit in the summer OR + a radiator oil heater (600-1500 watts) during the winter and my bill goes up exactly 20 dollars a month. I compare my bill with my neighbor regularly and I am 20 bucks higher...

You can go through your house right now and add 8 lightbulbs to your house. No one uses all their ceiling fan light sockets for an example. Basically you are saying if you add 8 lightbulbs to your house your utility bill jumps up that much? No, something else has to be happening.

You are basically saying that your ONE lightbulb is using more electricity than your kitchen appliances and every light turned on throughout the house.

here in the US the power company will report to the police if you have more of a 2000w spike per room, so if you have a 3 bedroom house your allowed up to a 6000w spike in power. I read that in mel thomas's book and i mean if your just running a 600 i wouldnt be worried about it

You may wanna check and see how big the breaker is to your room if it is a small one that light could be putting a lot of strain on it causing your bill to jump way up there. my friend had the same problem switched to bigger breakers and it went down a hole lot. try that

Don't worry man, there are many legal reasons why your electric could go up. The only ways the pigs catch people is tips offs, or large ops with flir. No smell , sell or tell ,can't go wrong.

Damn, your power rates must be low...if you ran your lights for 12 hours/day and nothing else, that makes your price/kwh at 7 cents. Add the ac or heater...

well of course there is fluctuation...

For instance... During the winter months my utility bill is around 250 a month, my neighbors bill will be 230 a month.
In the summer my bill is usually around 180 a month, her's is 160 a month.

In spring/fall my utility bill is normally around 100 a month, her's is around 80 a month.

We keep a 20 dollar difference every utility bill. She has a larger house, but lives alone, I have 2 people who live with me.
