People vote republican for three reasons, evil, stupid or ignorant. Evil is the biggest one, their character flaws cause them to make fools of themselves, stupid has been overstated, there are just not that many stupid people and most of them are good natured, that leaves ignorance and that is most often willful ignorance, driven by their character flaws. So, I would say being a republican is most likely caused by fear and hate riding on top of preexisting character flaws. After J6, everything that's happened before and since including the town CNN hall fiasco, I put support for Trump down to evil, there are not that many stupid and ignorant people. They are not victims of disinformation at this point in time, they are willfully ignorant or mealy-mouthed liars. They go through pains to hide their true motives and cannot explain them honestly when challenged. To be a republican is to support and defend everything Trump says and does, and one cannot serve two masters at once, one cannot support the constitution and the rule of law and Trump at the same time. It's a simple fact that they can't get around or avoid.
Putting Trump away too early will give them time to adapt and find another demigod, it won't take Mitch, Karl Rove and the megadonors long to rebrand and put lipstick on the pig. Put him away at the right time and he will rail against the republicans for betraying him and it will throw his hardcore base into confusion. They can't win without the support of Trump's racist hardcore base and if he turns on them, they will stay home on election day. There are 540 days until the election and that gives them too much time to recover from Trump being convicted of a serious crime, one that will put cuffs on him in court upon conviction and that he appeals from inside a cell. Having that happen in the middle of republican primary season would be ideal IMO, all the GOP house candidates would be tied to his tail by then and the base will want to FREE DONALD and they had better be on board!
