my pc case is always running 74-80F. those plants are looking healthy for the heat!

Your case is really not that hot. Coolmans gets up to 100, 20 degrees hotter. Much much worse. The plants can deal with 80 without a problem, thats only a couple degrees more then what it should be.

Update: 5/12/08

Well, theres some good news and some bad news :cry:

The bad news: The ladies started to show signs of heat stress :cry:

The good news: They are still growing strong and i replaces a weak exhaust and a weak intake for some stronger fans, there are pics below.

I originally had lightbulb socket in my attic. I bought a converter so that it turns into a lightbulb socket and 2 2-prong plugs. Today I connected a 2-prong-to-3-prong adapter to the light bulb socket adapter so i could connect 3-prong surge protector. Basically, it goes: Lightbulb socket----socket to plug adapter----2-prong to 3-prong adapter----surge protector----extention cord----fans, timer, & lights. Not sure if this is fire safe but i think its better than without the surge protector(5th & 6th pic). Theres pics below of the whole setup.

Now... The ladies. I gave them names so i can identify them better :mrgreen:

. So... heat stress signs are starting to appear, the edges of some leaves are starting to turn brown :cry:

. I changed some fans and theres a lot of air circulating now so well see. The max temp for these past few days got to 101!!! I hope the new fans take care of this. I also bought the things that hold up shelves, they have an L shape and you screw to the wall and put some boards on it to make a shelf. I got these in hopes of putting up plexiglass sometime in the future. I didnt have time to water them but the soil looked kinda moist. On the next watering, not sure when its gonna be, i will be adding Superthrive and Miracle Gro All Purpose nutes(12-8-10) but i dont know how much to put in the water :confused:

I also saw this in another thread(Silica Blast) it claims to help plants survive in extreme weather, does anyone know if i can get this locally :confused:

On the pics where it shows all the ladies it goes in this order:
Casey----------Felicia
Briana----------Elizabeth
Anna-----------Daisy

On the closeups i accidently deleted Briana so youll just have to see her in the family pic :mrgreen:

Hey guys i just though of somthing while looking at my avatar(was taken friday): Do you think my ladies are doing so well because of the high humidity??? Kinda seems logical, FL=Lots of humidity, plants under heat stress=dry leaves(i think), but with all the humitity maybe the plants dont really feel it you know.... if so this could be a breakthrough for ppl struggling with heat :smile:

Sounds like you're in tune with your babies. I think sometimes weird circumstances, where the caretaker is paying attention, you're making these connections like you said above, and you can tell they're okay, but you're concerned because of warning signs.

They shouldn't be doing well, but they are. You're listening to them-- they'll tell you what they need. If they need a lot cooler temps, they'll let you know and you'll find a way.

Your plants are WAY past mine, and mine have been growing longer, very close to lights under temps of 65-85 degrees.

i think that you need a perfect temp when you have an amazing grow area and looking for premium bud.. when youre growing it in rubbermaids you accept the fact youre not getting the best weed ever and grow temps can go high or low

good2bkind: Thanks man, its my first grow and im tryin to get all the support i can. I know the temps are way higher than they need to be but i really do care about them and try to look after them anyway i can. I dont know if they know or something but theyre hanging in there, its pretty much like having a pet or a child. I have grown other plants but its nothing like this... I hope they can hang in there long enough for me to figure something out. I really dont know why theyre that big, ive seen pics of other plants in the same age group and they either look like mine or somewhat smaller(unless its hydro) even though theres countless ppl that have said that above 90 degrees they dont grow.

MonkeeMan: Yes, this is why im not beating myself up too much over this, its my first grow and on very limited resources, ive accepted the challenge and all i can do is make it better little by little and hope they pull through :-)

Wow, this is the first time I ran across your grow and I like the way it is looking and especially how well they are taking the heat. I actually just started my first grow that is very similar to yours and I am also using a Rubbermaid tub and CFLs.

I was worried about my plants getting really hot, but after seeing how yours are doing I am not too worried anymore. I will definitely keep checking up on your grow. Good Luck. Check out my first grow sometime.

Update: 5/15/08

Well In a matter of 15 minutes i was able to mix in 2 cups of water with superthrive and 1/4 strength of Miracle Gro all purpose (12-8-10). Anna is now exaclty 2 weeks old, Briana is 13 days old, and Casey, Daisy, Elizabeth, and Felicia(got it from the spiderman show :mrgreen:

) are 11 days old. This is the order they are in on the close up pics, on the family pic they go:
Casey----------Felicia
Briana----------Elizabeth
Anna-----------Daisy

Note: All of the ladies are showing some or little heat stress but Briana has her leaves all droopy and yellow but i think this has more to do with them being dry than the heat. I gave them the water and they soaked it up. Temps reached a max of 101 and also, i decided to leave the lights on 24/7 after reading a bunch of posts claiming that they grew faster and other stuff, so im a little worried about how the temps will be affected by this and if it gets too hot then i will go back to 18/7. Sorry for the blurry pics but i was in a BIG hurry :hump:

. You know whats funny at 2:15 i was done and cleaned up everything and my family still hasnt gotten back, meaning i coulve still been up there with my babies for a while longer...

Not the best idea to switch to 24/0 light now. That can cause more stress resulting in hermies. Hope that doesnt happen though. Sweet that you got to check on them and give them a feeding, makes you feel better that you could check on them.

tryintogrow: Well actually i dont have a wife but my gf is over a lot so thats why i cant check on them at certain times and until next thursday my parents and grandma are here so... but when theyr gone i can pretty much check on them every day so its only a problem for now. Oh yea i love them too, not sure why briana turned on me like that she was my one of my 2 two main bitches :-)

hopefully shell come back with that watering i gave her.

Yeah theres nothing like peace of mind, hopefully theyll react well to it, especially anna, man im REALLY counting on her to be a HER

I am growing mine in a Rubbermaid mainly because it conceals it well. If i put a blanket on the outside of it and put some stuff on top, you cant even tell I am growing anything in it.

Carefull with that blanket cus it can clog the fans sometimes and force them to push air through them.

If you have to grow in the attic I would consider getting a decent inline duct fan and try to think of a way you can pull in some cool air from the house below. I think it's your only chance with this grow. It's got to be an oven in there. Can you cut a hole in the ceiling over a closet and run some ducting to your rubbermaid? A good inline fan that can handle pulling air through 6-10 feet of duct will cost you at least $150 (plus the ducting)so it may be cost prohibitive. Get a S&P MIXVENT fan(at least 150 CFM) if you can. They are quiet as hell and move plenty of air. I estimate 150cfm based on the fact that you have excessive internal and external heat to deal with. I hate to be a pessimist, but I don't think this is going to be worth it unless you get the temps under control.
