But i would vegg them out for at least 4 weeks, get some good node growth going and top them at that point, you can do it earlier if you wanted, but thats what i do

I find topping early don't waste any of the plants energy, why grow 5-6 nodes when you're gonna just cut 'em off? To clone I guess, would be the only reason I can think of.
But when you top at the 2nd, 3rd or 4th node, just as the other node starts to come up, you don't waste energy and then the energy goes directly to the shoots and makes them alot BIGGER.
This is what I do everytime, so I can get nice strong shoots for my lst's.
Take my advice at what it's worth (not much) I still consider myself a noob

Glad to have some more people on board. Things are looking good, but it's time to make some moves. I talked the wife into an HPS light, but now I am in a world of shopping around.

I don't know if I should go for the cheapo HTG light I see advertised on Ebay (my "approved" budget is $150). I want something that will last, and I don't really care if I can run MH as long as I get an HPS I am set.

I was told by my hydroponics store owner that the plants wont really flower under fluorescent lights even if I switch out the spectrum. Is this true? Anyone got some experience want to weigh in please be my guest. I also want to know if I can supplement an HPS light with fluorescent lighting if that will hurt the flowering stages at this point I am thinking no but again any advice is appreciated.

I am looking at the 400 Watt range because of my limited budget but this would mean that I would have to shrink my grow space to about 3-4 square feet! I am currently operating a 12 square foot area under fluorescent lights. Will I have to flower only a couple plants at a time or will the spread of light be enough for my entire area if I supplement with other lighting? I guess there will really be only one way to find out!

Also hit up some Bat Guano fertilizer 10-2-1 can't wait to see how they like it!

Thanks for the advice so far, I haven't topped yet. I am gonna wait a week or so till the smaller node really bush out then I will probably only chop 1 or 2 of the plants so that I can see the affects and decide if they like it or not.

Tied down the Big Kahuna and now it's growing like crazy hope it's not stressing out too much. I want to purchase my HID lighting system this week, if you guys have any suggestions call it out. Here's what I've looked at so far:
HTG supply is it good enough?
1000 Watt ballast but have to purchase everything else may be too hot
Option I think I will go with, available at my local store which is a plus

Let me know if you have dealt with any online retailers with success, feedback would be greatly appreciated since this will be a big purchase in my opinion. I'll get some pics up after I purch the new lights.

That sunsystem 2 looks like it might be a good choice. you will need a bulb with that and it's only HPS so no veg but that sounds about right. decent price too for a hood and ballast. good luck

It's done baby. Lighting installed and running. I went to my local shop and they hooked it up with a switchable 400W Sun Systems. Got reflector, ballast, HPS, and an upgraded daylight MH for $265 out the door$$$ Room is brighter then ever can't wait to get up some pics. I unfortunately spent all my money so I can't buy fertilizers to start flowering for a while but I am gonna veg with this MH and have a blast.

Luckily I have far exceeded my $150 budget. The need for supplies is way bigger then the need to save money. Besides I rationalize with all the money I will save from growing my own. Just make sure you run extra spending by your wife first or you can end up in a heap of shit!

Your telling me man, I don't mess with the cashflow or the wife will come down on me hard... With all the time and energy you invest its just hard to go cheap on certain things. Im just happy she allows me to enjoy this wonderful process. I have a grow at about 4 weeks 12/12, going to be starting a journal in the coming weeks. Anxious to see your results!

Thanks for the support! I just started 12/12 today and I am already anxious to get into my grow room! I hate the dark I love going in there and messing around in the middle of the night now what will I do? Things are looking really good. I purchased some Earth Juice microblast to feed the plants that I have in hempy buckets. It's a concentrate of essential micronutrients and no NPK. Hopefully will help boost growth. I also purchased Age Old kelp 5-10-5 for my flowering phase.

I'll get pics up soon sorry for the lack there of. I am waiting on some things, but I promise pictures before harvest! I expect at least another month well wait and see....

Sounds like you're off to a great start. You got the itch by the way it happens to us all O_O first its 25$ then 50$ then 150$, welcome to the dark side my friend soon you will be up in the 1000$ budget .

Agreed, the topping method worked wonders for the plant I tried it on. The two new stems are growing strong and a third came out from the bush below. I left the others with a single top since I didn't know how they would react. Also I have been blasting the hempy bucket project with earth juice to help them get back to normal. Their leaves are curling downward and are very skinny. Also new growth is staying very close to the stem and leaves are not developing properly, although they are looking very green and healthy.

I believe I have one girl! will show soon, I have at least 45-50 days left but 12/12 is going great so far.
