Growing Update

Growing area:
I have now updated growing area to accommodate vertical growth. I now have a up to 6 vertical feet for growth.

Lighting: For CFLs I now have four 23W 6400K, one 23W 2700K (flood CFL), and one 55W 3000K. I try to keep all of my CFLs 1-3 inches away from my plant. I also have a 20W Xenon light (2800K) that I am using for additional side lighting. I also finally bought a timer so I can have a more accurate photo period. The total Lumen output of my current light setup is 11800 Lumens with a diverse color temperature.

Ventilation: I now have three fans continuously circulating air. This keeps the growing area ~23-26 C (75-80 F).

Carbon dioxide: Today I started misting my plants leaves with carbonated water in order to provide a cheap and easy CO2 source. I am thinking of doing this 3-4 times a day spread out over 3-4 hour intervals.

Watering/Nutes: I have been using 1 L of tap water every few days. I have also included 1/4 strength 20/20/20 nutes to 500 mL water once a week. I am thinking about using this amount of nutes every time I water rather than just once a week.

I hope the Triforce FC is a female! Let me know if you have any suggestions or any budget ideas that could improve my current setup. Thanks!

That is the healthiest little plant Ive seen on RUI

I don't see the point in spraying with carbonated water, while I doubt it would kill the plant, I also don't think it will do anything good

I think spraying is not needed unless your treating PM or pests

The guys that grow rooms full of pot don't spray their plants with carbonated water(or anything else) because if they did, they would be there all day spraying.

If the plant has all it needs in the soil/air/light/nutrient/temperature/humidity departments, then what is spraying it supposed to do?

The real problem I see with carbonated water is that I know plants don't like CO2 in concentrations higher than 1500ppm. If your spraying dilute carbonic acid all over the leaves you have no way of knowing exacty how many ppm's of CO2 your injecting into the plant. CO2 boosting is only effective with higher temperatures. You can't bring your temperature up if your spraying with fizzy water because if the CO2 level dips to normal levels your plants will cook.

I don't intend to spray my plants for any other reason than pest/PM control.

Other than that... That is definately the healthiest vegging plant I have seen. It's probaby because you have such a good amount of light on it. The CFL's at that distance are actually lighting it up more than a HID would at a greater distance. Keep it up!

You'll want to get a Bloom fertilizer for flowering. You could go either fully synthetic as that is cheaper, but you might also consider using organics along with a beneficials culture such as Great White, but that might cost a bit more. I don't know which one would yield more but they say organics tastes better. I'm using sythetics all the way so I will have complete control over the nutrient uptake.

Man I wish mine were so green. That's an absolutely beautiful plant you have there.

x2 on what pickle said about the bloom nutes. Instead of feeding with every watering though maybe you should consider upping from 1/4 to 1/2 and just feeding every other water.

Are you going to top her soon?

If that's Kali Mist it's one of the more interesting crosses/phenos I've seen. I'm keeping my hopes up that you've got a female as I'd like to see this grow go all of the way.

Thanks! I am trying to give this plant the best conditions I can without spending too much extra money.

My logic behind the carbonated water was to increase CO2 levels in the growing area enough to increase the rate in the growing process. If CO2 is the limiting reagent in the photochemical process then increasing the availability of CO2 to plants even if it is lower than 1500 ppm should still help right? It makes sense that larger scale growers wouldn't want to waste their time misting plants but with only one plant it is actually manageable. Having said that, I am still skeptical that misting would be beneficial. I will most likely discontinue spraying with carbonated water.

With how dense this three leaf mutant is growing I am debating if topping would be the best course of action or not. It may be interesting to let this mutation grow naturally. What do you think?

I will for sure look up Bloom fertilizers for flowering. I should be able to determine sex coming up here pretty soon. Fingers crossed.

Thanks! I am for sure happy with this plant up to this point. Leaves everywhere! I just fed my plant another 1 L of water with 1/4 nutes. I think I will try what you mentioned and increase the nutes to 1/2 but still only add every other watering.

In regards to topping, I am still trying to decide what exactly I want to do with this plant. I may be interesting to just let the mutation grow out. This however may limit my potential yield.

I hope it is female too! I got lucky to have such an interesting plant on my first grow.

I also noticed roots popping through the bottom of my current pot. I know that my current pot is at least a gallon in size so it should be okay but do you think it would be better to transplant to a slightly larger pot?

You might want to be preemptive and transplant soon before they're completely root bound. I mean if you're going to transplant anyway you might as well do it before the plants gets uncomfortable. I just moved mine into 1 gallon Root Pots. I'll have to do it one more time right before flower.

Yeah I may have to do that this week. I thought that my current pot would be all that I needed be now that I see roots I am thinking otherwise. I might go for a 2-3 gallon if the size that I have will cause problems.

Topping your plant will give you different results depending on where you cut and how big the plant is

If you were to cut just the tip off right before flower, youd have yourself an interesting "tri-force" tripple bud lol

If you were to chop lower down and grow out 3 main shoots you'll end up with 3 colas and could veg longer achieving 3x more plant in the same height. You would want to train those three apart from each other to give them space. After harvest you would have yourself a nifty little cannabis tripod! BAahaahaha

If your willing to veg longer(longer veg means you have more knowledge and experience by the time you flower so I do recommend it) you could top low down on the plant and grow out the 3 shoots, but to do this adequately you should provide 3X the floorspace and 3X the light, and 3X the medium(a Big honking pot). If you want to keep it easy and small without needing more space or light or medium I don't suggest you top the plant. This will also save many weeks off of the veg period if you don't top

If you do decide to top and plan on growing out a large plant(3 tops at 4 feet height) than I would recommend getting alot more light, plenty of space, and at least 5 gallons of medium(more is better). If you want to keep it small, you probably already have enough light(though more is better) and 3 gallons should be fine

I like the MORE IS BETTER approach personally8)

If this plant does turn out to be female, at that point I may go ahead and get a high quality organic fertilizer. I haven't done much research into fertilizers but I like chemistry so it should be fun. I have never heard of beneficials culture before either. Another thing to research about. Thanks!

So you haven't fed this plant anything or amended the soil in any way?
The only thing that I have done is give it a 1/4 dose of 20/20/20 nutes once a week for two weeks. The soil I used when I transplanted was All Treat Farms Premium Potting Soil.

Oh yeah.. duh:bigjoint: I lost track of which thread I was posting in for a minute. Well you're obviously doing something very right. Great White is a mycorrhizal inoculant blend. Mycorrhizae are fungi that develop a symbiotic relationship with plants and greatly increase the effective surface area of roots. If you have already started with synthetic nutes then you should probably stick with them through this grow.
