First grow question do you need to change the water every two weeks for dwc

I am wondering if I have to continually change the water every two weeks I have my journal in autoflower section...it's only day 9 but I planned on changing the water before putting nutes in starting next wednesday. But do I even need too or can I wait two weeks after I start the nutes and for now just replenish water level with ph adjusted spring water? Thanks for looking!

No you dont HAVE to. It's a good idea. I usually wait till the plant drinks it down to about 4 inches of water level. Then I add fresh nutrient water or just water depending on the EC. I wash the buckets and do a nutrient change every week to two weeks max.

This. I have been changing mine out every week.

Medicianalhealing: I think that depends a lot on what your plants are saying to you. What does your PPM meter say? If your plants are in a growth spurt your pH and ppm's are often going to change radically and quickly and you're either going to have to change or alter your nutes. What do your plants look like? Are they dark green, lush and perky? I changed my nutes weekly, not every other week. With six plants in seven gallons in my bubble tubs I couldn't go that long. You might want to refer to Cervantes. I hope that helps. HSA

I NEVER change mine in veg, and change it twice during flowering period at week 3 and 5.

Never an issue, the hydro stores and nutrient manufacturers would like you too though, as well as the mindless sheep who follow others advice without experimenting themselves.

I think it really depends on your water quality. I use only pure distilled or r/o water and i rarely have to change mine, whereas my friend that uses tap water changes every week or he gets salt buildup.

I love rollitup I ask a question and get a lot of different answers I compare the answers to my situation and always find exactly what I needed plus to everyone's rep lol  And I'd pass a bong hit to everyone if you were here lol bongsmilie

Btw I do use only distilled water that I adjust the ph of to 5.5-6 unfortunately I need to buy a ph meter and ppm meter I am broke and am buying as I go but if you look at my journal in the autoflower section you can see how I am doing unfortunately one of my babies is starting to look hurt but the rest look lovely at 7, 9 and 10 days old

+1 If people take the time to learn to read their plants and get to know them inside and out, they should rarely need to change out their reservoir. Top up and feed what they require instead of just throwing stuff at them with a blindfold on!

Interesting. The one thing I like is that you don't just throw shit out there, you post your results as well and they cannot really be argued with. I think I am going to do some experimenting with one of my 3 plants still in veg to see if there is any noticeable difference. Like Bigz' friend, I am using tap water.

I will say that following convention on the first shot doesn't necessarily make one a mindless sheep, especially when multiple sources with no financial interest in one purchasing additional nutes tell you that it is wise to swap water/nutes and most importantly, cleaning the reservoir.

A bigger res helps... I read online you should change all the solution once you add half as much water

(if 50 liters, change after you've added 25 liters to top it up to a stable level)
I'm gonna try that

I like to dump my res when the ph starts dropping or when anything else strange starts happening. I use the bene tea from dr h's sticky.

One thing I have noticed with DWC is the water gets funky after a week or ten days. Mine runs a little on the warm side though, so I change it fairly often.
I have noticed that they grow better right after a change out. You do not have to do full change outs. They respond well to half change outs. Just dump half the solution once a week then refill and top off with fresh nutes. They love it.

if your dealing with individual 5 gallon buckets you're more than likely running without chilling , this should be factored in and once a week isn't really a big deal. But say you're running a 55 gal res on some sort of rdwc or ebb and flow and you're also using RO, RO filters are painfully slow and you'll be needing another res just to do change outs leaving change outs less feasible in my mind, plus theres the extra nutrients too.

I have plants that I have never changed the res just kept adding to it.Maybe I should change it but I don't want to. They are doing fine.

For all the haters out there....i don't do one res change through the entire grow. EVER. Unless it's under dire circumstances and i've completely fucked something (which doesn't happen often these days) i just leave it be. Slowly introduce all nutes, always underfeed recommended dosage.
