this is my first time growing and she(i hope) is a few days over 2 weeks old. the room is 40x60x20 with 4 cfls so far, 3 6500k 26 w and one 26w 2700k. i have 2 plants in there a few days apart but one is growing super slow, i think i killed it when i transferred it but it wont die, it just sits there. they both smell like herb already too. i was looking at the good one today and im seeing signs of it bein a female already(see pic) is it true?? it would be awesome if it was!!! the pic is supposed to be zoomed in but im not computer smart, but whats circled is what looks like little stipuiles or something, like i said im new and only know what i read on the net.

na man ur plants are still to young to show preflowers. i cant really c wat u circled but if ur talkin bout those spiky things at the nodes then no every mj plant has thos at every node. wat kind of soil ur using? ur soil looks really compact. u shood add sum perlite and/or sum compost to ur soil for bttr drainage and aeration. also they look like they cood use a lil N

Looks pretty good. The little one will catch up, or not, might be the strain or the genetics of that specific plant.

Still premature for sexing. Looks like you have another couple days to week before a definite decision can be made.

You may want to put a thin layer of sand on top of your dirt as a preventative for a potential gnat problem, been hearing a lot of problems lately, maybe the season. They creep up quick and are hard to get rid of. It will keep any adults out of the soil so that they can not lay their eggs there. The larvae will eat your roots and cause stunted growth or death.

This is wrong, trust I tested loads! and Jorge Cervantes said vertical is better for cfl aswell as my testing.
I defer to your wisdom, and with small bulbs like these it may not make a difference, but the larger 125+ watts def should be hung horizontal. Not sure what tests you ran but the physics shows that the light is emmited out the sides and not the end.

*edit - Almost forgot IMO.
**edit - and yours as well "3. most of the light is shining on the bulb next to it so efficiency is rubish"

thank you, the soil is just half dirt from outside and half potting mix or somethin, can i just add perilite in there or do i have to re-pot it again?

I have used over 200 11W cfl's!!!! Jorge Cervantes said vertical is best in his high times grow dvd, that boy knows his stuff.

My comment "3. most of the light is shining on the bulb next to it so efficiency is rubish" was due to the fact they are sat without a gap next to each outher however even this was more eficient than the 36 horisontal fitting I made with drainpipe reflectors coverd in mylar.

I would go on to say that a cfl in virtical setup with parabolic reflector = most efficient possible
opposed to H.I.D where horisontal with double parabolic = most efficient possible

I.M.O and my tests

I find it interesting, I am subbed to see how you do with them. The lowest i have went is 42 watt bulbs which seem brighter on their sides. maybe the little bulbs are more efficient in a vertical setup.

thank you all, the lights are just sortof temporary untill i can make up with a good reflector to hold all the lights, also i'm gonna drop some more cfls in there for side lighting once they get a litte taller, and i was lookin at pics of the little one and its growin a tiny bit each day so maybe theres still hope. also i found these little nutrient tablets that are for hydroponics growing, can it mix that with water and add it every couple days??

i was thinkin about it and the lights are made to hang upside down in a room anyways so i figured it would put off more light like that any ways, but ive read that horizontal is better too so i guess its just trial and error untill i find the best, it might have to do with the size of the room too.

most hydro nutrient wont work in soil. for now just grow without nutes a small plant like that doesnt feed a lot, they mostly drink. so if you used decent soil it has the nutrients in it. you can use tomato soil nutrients as well, they are close.

vertical is probably best for those tiny cfls. For the larger ones though horizontal is the way to go.

emerson, ya should really use a peat based compost and perlite as a minimum to help with drainege and give good air/soil mix just coz its so cheap to do.
Ya cant change now but nevermind, just be carefull not to overwater or ya will drown em for this run.

folow the instructions on ya little tablets but make it a bit weaker just to be safe, eg bit more water than packet said (or thats what id do, better to under nute than burn!)
