Watupp everyone!
I am currently 2 weeks in on my first grow and would like to hear some opinions on how to improve my grow. Any help is greatly appreciated, i am a noob and lookin for some good constructive criticism!
The grow box:
4'x5'x6' fully insulated with R-tech insulation board (walls are completely reflective)
6" in-line duct fan for exhaust with carbon filter on roof of box
7" passive intake hole near bottom of box
6" fan to circulate air.
The lighting:
1 400w hps grow light used for flowerin
1 400w mh grow light used for veg
The system:
A home made top-feed hydroponic system
400 gph pump
12 feed lines
10 gallon res with airstone and aquarium water heater
12 6" rockwool cubes
1 warm air humidifier
The nutes:
Fox farms Grow Big
Fox farms Big Bloom
Fox farms tiger bloom
So far in my grow i have successfully germinated all 12 seeds in some starter plugs and finally placed them into my system when they were between 3-4 days old. (I am not sure of the strain, i have collected seeds I found in my bags lately.) The plugs drop right into the 6" rockwool cubes and were immediately introduced to the 400w hps light at about 3' away from the babies. I have been leaving the light on 24/7 for the first 2 weeks. The room temperature is constantly upper 70's and i have been using the humidifier constantly. I have a humidity meter but i am not sure if its working correctly.
So far the plants are growing OK i guess...
For the first week i did not use any nutes what-so-ever just used PH'd water in my res. As far as a feeding schedule, i had the timer set for every 3 hours a 15 minute watering, so 8 times a day. (Kid at hydro store told me this was a correct amount.) at the beginning of the 2nd week i have used a low dosage of the fox farms grow big and big bloom as according to the fox farms dosage chart. Lately i have noticed the leaves having some drooping, even a little yellowing in some spots. Thinking this was over watering, i lowered the watering schedule to 3 times a day for 15 minutes. STILL drooping after a week...
My questions:
1. Is the 400w hps too strong for them at such an early stage? should i use florescents first?
2. What is the correct height for the light fixture during the growth stages?
3. Is my watering schedule too much? How often should I water using the system i am working with?
4. What do you guys think of my setup?? How can I improve it?
Thanks for your help guys!!!!!
I will post some more pics of the entire setup soon, I just took a few quick with my phone so you can get the idea...
